Anybody else tried TRX?

Friday, August 03, 2012

I did today. It was hard as hell. 1/3 of the exercises, I couldn't even wrap my head around long enough to fathom how to get into the right position. The instructor was very kind and patient with me. She told me I did a great job, and followed instructions well.

Some of the exercises I did okay. None of them did I feel I did 'very well'. It was just incredibly awkward, and I felt like an overblown sausage trying to get into and hold positions that seemed to be relatively easy for the other people. I know that I should definitely not compare myself to them, as this was my first time. But dang.

I'm not saying I would never try it again. But, there is a whole calendar full of other classes that I am eager to try in hope that I will love one of those and be satisfied in the notion that at least I tried TRX once, and I know what it is.

Next week I'm trying a Kettlebell class. We'll see how that goes.

I've been doing awesome with my running. I've mapped out a 3.11 mile course around my neighborhood, and have worked up to be able to 'run' the whole thing without stopping or having to walk any of the way. I've been consistent in running 6 days a week (sometimes the 3.11 mile course, sometimes shorter ones) for the past month.

My next goal is to run that course in less time. Currently, I can run it in 39 minutes.

And to find a class that I love, or at least feels a lot less awkward and impossible than TRX, so I'll be able to continue to do that through the winter if/when I won't be able to run as much.

I've done TRX several times and I find it so-so. It's much harder than it looks and it makes my wrists and forearms hurt from the grip.

Now that you have run an entire 3.1, (I had a goal to do that too and succeeded.) try Jeff Galloway's interval training. Here's an example...do a nice paced 3 min, walk 1 min., just like you did when you were in training....I hope. It's a 3:1 interval. If you do that the entire race, you will have a better time and find that you have a stronger finish. I started doing that after my 20th 5k and hit a personal record. I broke that on my next race! I know great SP runners who will do that plan in 10Ks, HMs and Marathons! Outstanding effort! Stay strong, train, well, and watch the magic!

I am in my first week of doing kettle bells and I was really sore for two days after the first workout. I am doing 4 workouts a week, after the 2nd workout I was not as sore. Lots of water and walking everyday has helped with the soreness. emoticon

I love that my local rec center has this rec plex pass. You don't have to pay the annual membership, just purchase a pass for a month for the classes. You pay a small amount ahead for 4, 8, 12, or unlimited classes. I got the 4 for $25, as I'm not sure I will be able to get to the rec center more than 1 day per week. It's a great way to try lots of different things with a small investment. I'm planning on trying Kettlebells, Iron Circuit, and PY (Pilates/Yoga) Fusion.

I may upgrade my pass and also try Kickboxing, Boxercise, or Power Up, depending on how things go.

I am extremely interested in TRX! I have done a brief information only class on it. My mom is a personal trainer and swears by it... And kettlebells.

I don't have a gym membership so the only way I can do TRX is to break down and buy a system. I think that is going to be at the top of my CHRISTmas wish list

Soooo happy you are trying new stuff! Go YOU!
