So yesterday was the big DAY....Harley and state fair.

Friday, August 03, 2012

As most of you know on my bucket list was riding on a Harley. My "baby" brother and I had plans to go to our state fair and he suggested taking his Harley as parking would be so much easier/cheaper and I said yes. Never have been a "rider" on a Harley I was a little apprehensive. But thanks to my friends, SP and others, I was given great advice and was very calm about the whole idea. He arrived at 7:45 AM and we were on our way a few minutes later. He asked if I wanted to use the city streets or the express way. (his significant other always prefers the city streets if she hasn't been riding in awhile) I said I didn't really know. So the plan was to ride up to the on ramp and take it to the first off ramp...if I was doing OK we would continue on the express way......I was doing better than OK. I was loving it so we continued on. If you are familiar with Milwaukee WI, we took the Hoan bridge route and it was fabulous. I need to tell you that I did wear jeans, but put my shorts on under them (which impressed my bro). Actually it impressed me too, as I lost enough inches to be able to do this. Now back to the trip.....getting off the express way there was a circle exit.....how exciting that was. Found a "skinny" parking space on the street only one block away from the fair grounds. It was "Hunger Task Force Day" so we brought along some food items and got in for a discounted price. (Mom taught us to be giving and Dad taught us to be frugal) We walked for 4 hours, stopped and ate a couple of the fair items: cream puff, pulled pork, chocolate covered cheese stick and had to try the "Elvis on a stick". This is a peanut butter cup dipped in banana flavored batter and sprinkled with bacon. Glad we shared it and can say we tried it....was really sweet and gooey....nothing I would eat again. Now we are ready for the ride home. Two things: one I wore a sun visor that I forgot I even had on so when I tried to put the helmet on.....well let's just say Bro had to help. Than (something I WILL remember for the next time) walking for 4 hours tightens your leg muscles....I could barely get on the bike. Had to take my hand and help my leg. Didn't even think of it, but will stretch next time.
Wish I had the couple of pictures we took, but they aren't on the computer yet so I will post them at a later date....sorry. All in all the day was wonderful and the Harley ride was fantastic. Thanks for stopping by and sharing in my experience. Hugs to all.

You sound like you had a great time. How awesome to spend time with your brother that way. We went to the little fair in Albert Lea,MN last night. Walked alot but I didn't try any of the weird foods. Went to the grand stand and watched Charlie Pride intertain. It was a good night. GS wants us to go with them today so guess my weekend will be busier then I thought it would be. What is the next thing on your bucket list?

How fabulous! You are awesome! Riding that Harley, wearing two pairs of pants at a time, trying new foods.. what a risk-taker! What an inspiration!

Long ago I had a ride on a Harley..then I had kids who grew up and hate the idea on "Mom on a Harley".. so Thanks for letting me enjoy the ride vicariously.

Sounds like you had a great day. I love the Wisconsin State Fair and cream puffs. We try to go every year. Not sure if we will make it this year. Glad you enjoyed the ride-it does sound like fun.

Good for you. I love riding motorcycles. I haven't rode in years. I don't know anyone with a bike. Everyone I know now is chicken $hit.

Thanks for the follow-up! Glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself...and you've got guts! As a seasoned rider....I HATE the Hoan (even in a car). Good for you!

I loved riding Dick's Harley...his pride and joy until Richelle was born. Sad to say I haven't ridden on since his death in 1992.
Glad you had this wonderful experience!!! WAY TO GO!!!

This sounded like such a great outing! I am so happy you enjoyed your ride and the fair. I give you props for getting on a Harley and actually riding on the expressway instead of taking the city streets. WOW! I am impressed. I think I would have been scared to death. Sounds like you had a wonderful day and a memorable experience Barb. Hugs to you, my dear friend.

So glad you had a great time AND got to do something on your "bucket list"! It's funny, a couple of friends of ours stopped by today. They're on the way up to Washington State on their Harley, and as they were sitting here in their leather chaps, I was wondering how you were doing!

Don't fairs come up with the oddest food items?

What a fabulous experience. I can imagine you on the Hoan bridge - great views! and walking the Fair. Gotta say I had a chuckle about being uable to get back on the bike after walking all day! But the dang "Elvis in a stick" ... EWWWW! They will deep fry ANYTHING at the Fair! Spark ON!
