My 27th wedding anniversary was a week ago today and my husband planned a surprising great day of fun! He printed out several sheets of paper with directions leading to places that I had to figure out...first was breakfast out at a restaurant which was so nice. With money being tight we rarely go out anymore so this was really nice!
Next was the farmer's market - one of my favorite places to go - where he bought me real maple syrup - another luxury that I don't get too often - and so yummy!! In moderation of course! lol
Next was to Walmart where he took me to the sports equipment aisle. Hmmmm what are we doing here? Well, he wanted me to try different baseball gloves to find one that fit me. I love baseball - GO REDSOX!!! =) - but I also used to love to play softball in highschool. My favorite sport to play! Last year I asked my husband if we could play catch and it was so much fun. I had used one of his old gloves and it worked okay. So, he remembered that time and thought I should have my own glove! I found a nice brown one with pink trim - a little girly and perfect for me! For fun we checked out the bats...wow, are they expensive!! Then a Walmart worker told us there were clearance bats on the end and to check them out so we did. And, there was the perfect one for only $20.00! The only one of its kind - I still think God put that one there for us! =) So off we went with our new finds!
Next mysterious set of directions was to a ballfield. Well, he forgot to tell me to throw my sneakers in the car when we left the house so I kicked off my heels and played in my barefeet. We threw the softball back and forth - he put me through some drills, let me bat for a while and then he batted some pitches to me to catch and go after. It has been 30 years since I picked up a bat!!!!! It was a BLAST!!!! No, it wasn't your traditional romantic anniversary but it was the sweetest, most thoughtful day planned out by my husband! I had so much fun and yes I was filthy and sweaty!! lol But who cares! We had fun together and it turned out to be a great workout!
One of the things I realized as I was chasing down ground balls and learning how "not to throw like a girl" (my husband's words lol) was that all those softball moves were similar to moves I had incorporated into my workout routines! I was amazed!
I have a ruptured disk in my lower back and have had degenerated disk problems for 20 years now and never thought I could ever swing a bat again because of the twisting. What I didn't realize that since joining Sparks over 2 1/2 years ago and losing the weight and starting to exercise that over time I had strengthened my muscles all over and am now doing all these twists and turns in my aerobic dance that are the same moves for softball!!!
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to realize that - simply amazed! I'm ready to go back out again and do it all over again. My husband would like to see me actually find a softball league for my age (does that exist???) so I can really do something I enjoy again! Softball...who knew???!!!
Oh, he ended our lovely day by grilling steaks for me and making strawberry (virgin) daiquiries and eating out on our deck. It was so wonderful and thoughtful. He is the greatest! 27 years and it really does just keep getting better!!!!
