Back from vacation

Friday, August 03, 2012

Well hello there! I am finally home and as my status update says, shortly after getting home from holiday my stupid little laptop blew up! I think I could actually see the smoke coming from itīs ears for about a day before it went kaput but I ignored it....it seems so unfair that each year in July we have to take the think in and they send it off to Japan or somewhere to get it fixed. When we went to look at new computers the guy asked up when we got our Toshiba and when we told him it was just over three years ago he told us that ...of course...that was the exact time that Toshiba was having trouble with something or other and that those fact computers have lots of problems. Neat. Arenīt we lucky.

Soooo, we took the plunge and spent some real money on a computer and got an IMac. The darn thing is, like, the most beautiful thing I own! The CPU is in the screen for gosh sakes! The only thing is that it is DIFFERENT. I have to get used to this thing. It is like I, who has never texted and does not own a TV, am being forced to live in the modern world! Blue Tooth. What the heck is "Blue Tooth" anyway? Cause I got it and donīt know what to do with it!

Soooo bear with my my friends, while I struggle through a learning curve.

We ARE back from our vacation though. We went to Switzerland and Italy. I am not posting pictures today...well because...you guessed it...I canīt figure out how. Plus the pictures from the beginning of our trip have gone to Japan with our laptop! (I hope they enjoy themselves.) We probably have a chip of them around here somewhere but we are a little disorganized at the moment. I WILL BLOG ABOUT THE TRIP IN THE COMING DAYS. WOW. CAPS. I WONDER HOW I UNDO THAT? Well that washīt so hard now was it?

As far as my health goes, my back is still healing and I am down to taking only two pain killers a day. I struggled a bit on the trip...more with some of the beds we slept in than my activity, even regressing a bit in Switzerland but I have decided to go back to work full time next week since I seem to be able to do most things now. If I have any problems once I am back I will take it from there.

I do have to strengthen my back however so Patrick and I have joined a gym. I am going to start really slow...I gotta get back to normal...these past six months of being out of the game has been hard on me.

My eye? Well...so far so good as far as the virus goes. I kept up with my medication while I was away and had no problems. I still cannot see out of my right eye mind you , but that will never get better without surgery. In order to be a candidate for surgery I have to keep the virus away for quite some time. The good thing is that my Eye Doctor has now taken me on full time...having me visit once every two weeks even when the virus is not active. I think once he sees that I am stable then he will consent to surgery.

In other news...I have gained weight again. Ugh. Really though it is to be expected with the long period of inactivity. I didnīt do anything crazy like eat a bunch of junk food or dive into a pit of ice cream...I just didnīt move enough to burn off the calories. Well...there was all that cheese in Switzerland but that was kind of after the fact! So, I gotta get back on Spark again for real. I need to get things under control before things get too bad. I have to do it without aggressive dieting though since I am not completely healed. I will just start recoding my nutrition and exercise of a few weeks and see how it looks and then decide what to do.

It is good to be back. It will be good to see what my Spark friends are up to. I missed your guys and hope that you are having wonderful summer! Talk to you soon!

Glad you had a nice time on vacation! Hope to hear more about it and see the pictures soon!!

Wow - I'm envious of your iMac! There is a little bit of a learning curve because it is different, but you'll get it! I particularly liked how my Mac never did silly things like popup "Are you sure you want to run this program?" . YES, THAT'S WHY I CLICKED IT.

Ahem. Sorry. :)

Glad you are feeling better, too! I'm sure the inactivity didn't help much, weight loss is tricky enough even without other health considerations! Tracking food and exercise is important for me, too.

    Oh goody ... vacation! :)

Glad to read that you're feeling better. I'm staring at the Labor Day date on the calendar really hard ... well, not really since it's next month, but I can feel it. I'm being very careful to not get burnt out this season and I'm having some success .. not complete, but doing okay.

We can catch up later and I'm so glad to see that you're on the mend!!

Welcome back Ronna, and glad to hear you seem to be on the up, even with a few niggles.

I've been using a mac for years now, best thing I ever did. Give me a shout if you get stuck :)

Welcome back! Glad you got to have a nice vacation, I think if you're in Switzerland you have to eat cheese, right?

Seems like you're figuring out the IMac, have fun! I will need a new laptop soon, but I got a tablet to bridge the gap, so far that's working pretty well.

Ronna, I am so happy for you!! A great vacation - you are getting well - you have a good doctor looking after your eye - and you are going back to work - sounds like things are really (finally) coming together for you.
I have missed you and have worried about you so much. Welcome back, my friend.
So, a new PC, huh? I have never used anything but Dell and HP so I don't know anything about the other brands. I know you will have it all figured out in no time. It sounds wonderful, though.
I can't wait to see all of your beautiful vacation pictures - it sounds like a fabulous trip.
Take care of yourself and again, welcome back.
We have lots of catching up to do!!
Sending lots of love!!

So happy you are back and had a good time! I'm looking forward to pictures and blogs about your vacation.

We are PC users....our best friends swear by Apple and I am completely confused when I have to use their computers. We have a Toshiba laptop that is still going strong. I think it is 8 years old......now, just because I bragged it will go belly up emoticon

Happy your docs are taking your eye seriously and you will have surgery sometime in the future. How much vision will you regain? Good news about the gym too.

Take care, Ronna. So happy you are home!

Yea, Ronna is back!! SO glad you had a good trip -- you sound good, your humor still intack, and ready to face some challenges, yes! BTW, I always get blue tooth and wireless mixed up -- I think they are close cousins though, not identical twins :)

Enjoy the new computer. My son has MAC's and swears by them! My laptop is either close to 3 years old, or is older than that, and hubby believes that if you can get a heavily used laptop to last more than 3 years you are doing good (for most over the counter simplier types), no matter the brand.

Here's to a good month ahead of healing, working, and healthy living!

    Nice to hear from you.
I hope you had a great trip.
Glad you are feeling okay, hope your back continues to improve with strengthening.
Can't wait to hear more about your vaction and see your photos.
Things have been different/busy for me. I haven't been Sparking as much as I'd like. I too have gained weight since the first of the year and am trying to get back to a place that feels good and managable. Talk more with you soon. Have a nice weekend. Oh, I am not good with technology at all...I just got a new phone and sent my first text a couple of weeks ago...still learning there. Hope you enjoy your new computer.

    Hi Ronna:

So good to hear from you. Very happy that you are feeling better and are on the road back to your normal activities.

Enjoy that new laptop! My laptop that I purchased last November is having major problems, to the point that it isn't even usable anymore. My son, the computer genius, is taking a look at it now and will see if he can get it up and running again.

Take care, and I'm looking forward to the photos of your vacation.

Welcome back! We just got back as well. I bought an iPad, and am having similar issues, ie, I have no idea what I'm doing with the thing. LOL I'm still using my laptop, though - the iPad is more for DH and DS.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. It sounds like you have a good handle on what you need to do.

Looking forward to hearing about the vacation!

I am so pleased that you are feeling better and continue to be so smart and resilient. You are not overdoing when it would be so easy to and not diving into that ice cream like you could easily do. You are instead keeping a clear head and doing what you can. GOOD 4 U!

I am equally pleased that you were able to enjoy your vacation/holiday. I can't wait to see the pictures. I fly to the UK tomorrow for work next week and then to France in a few. I imagibne getting back to work will be wonderful yet challenging. Again, just do what you can, right? A step at a time.

We are here for you!

Welcome back! Great news on your eye condition and that you are at least mentally ready to face some challenges, like going back to work and getting back in shape! I disagree with the tech... I've had Toshiba computers for years, our latest 1 and 3 years ago. I'll be checking out the 3 y/o to make sure there aren't any probs I need to take care of tho. Looking forward to catching up with you!
