Today, I had a planning meeting for our little church's women's ministry. We planned all the way out to July, 2013. There were only two of us and it took a while for our motors to get running, but at the end of two and a half hours, a lot was accomplished.
We both agreed: We can't bring the women in, but we can let them know we care by planning some thoughtful and fun events for them! That's the way it is with changing the way I eat. Spark provides the tools I need to plan an entire day's meals for the next day. I can go through all that planning and use up all the fresh produce and other good things in my cupboard and refrigerator but, ultimately, it's up to me to follow it. It's up to me to make sure I check the list in the morning and start the day off with a decent breakfast.
Walking is my exercise of choice, but I'd like to do some sculpting. I had a disc replaced in my neck and they discovered I have degenerative arthritis in my neck. Because of the disc rupturing before surgery, I lost about 30% of the strength in my left arm...my strongest arm. I am right-handed, but for some reason, my left arm is (was) so much stronger. Because of the nature of the injury, the arthritis, the nerve damage and the loss of strength, I was told by my therapist I cannot lift weights over my head, but I can do other exercises to build up some strength again. So I bought a Reebok step today to get some good cardio as well as some scuplting in and I have stretch bands and some good exercises for that, too.
In December, I am hoping to go to Israel and Egypt. Oh no! I can hear people saying (because that's what my friends are saying). That is such a dangerous place! But I am not worried about that at all. Hey, I am of the mind that if it's my turn to go, i can be sitting at my computer and the LORD can take me. He is not a respecter of persons and has no boundary He can't cross. I will be there over Christmas, so I am really excited about that. Hope it all works out. At any rate, I want to be in the best shape possible so that I can do all the walking and hiking. I'm thinking the food over there will be insanely good--lots of fresh veggies and fruits and nuts!
So now I have a goal...not just weight loss either. A prize, if you will, at the end of the journey!
