Sunday and Wednesday are my chosen days of rest from working out. Taking a day off to rest doesn't necessarily mean that you don't do some sort of activity. I just means that you take a break from doing your usual workout.
Yesterday, Wednesday, I decided to tackle several big tasks that were on my list of things "to do". I did several loads of laundry, hubby and I ran some errands in the morning, we went out for breakfast, met some friends for lunch and then tackled some big chores in the afternoon.
While the washing machine and dryer were humming away, I decided to vacuum the house. This was followed by shampooing the carpet in the dining room, front office and master bedroom. Hubby, meanwhile, was using some serious elbow grease to tackle some stubborn carpet stains in the great room and hall. We will try to shampoo that area tomorrow. The carpet was of dubious quality to begin with, so after 7 years with people and pets running in and out of the house, it looked pretty bad even though we try to shampoo it once or twice a year. Ripping the carpet up and replacing it with either tile or hard wood flooring would be a costly solution right now although we have seriously considered it.
I found the act of cleaning the carpet very therapeutic. The before and after comparison is usually fairly dramatic, so I derive a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from a job well done. Now the house smells fresh and clean and we have checked several large chores off our list.
While I technically didn't workout yesterday, I really got a good two hours of exercise while completing my chores. In fact, I can't remember the last time I was dripping with sweat like I did yesterday. My exercise tracker says that I burned 1200 calories and I sure felt like that was true!
