I did a 5K Saturday... no biggie... I knew the course. I'd done it before - twice! I had signed up for the event at the last minute in honor of our Spark Friend LDRICHEL. If she could walk a 5K with an injured ankle, I could walk / jog (a little) a 5K in support.
It was a small event with about 200 runners, but some of them were local high school cross country teams! I knew I'd be pretty far back in the pack, but that's the good thing about a 5K event - you compete against yourself. Even when my daughter does an event with me, she's really never WITH ME, if you know what I mean! She runs in the high 21s - low 22s! Not me - my PR is 44:48.
I felt pretty good on the course. I had set my iPhone to play my Couch 2 5K day for the first part. You must understand that I run slow when I run, so the jogging minutes are not very fast!!! The temperature was a very nice 75 degrees, but the humidity was 97% - ugh! As I approached the finish line, I looked at the time clock and distinctly remember seeing 45:12. I was disappointed. I had wanted to best my time of 44:48 on the course about a month earlier. Oh, well - it must have been the humidity.
I checked the website later Saturday afternoon - no official times posted... same on Sunday. I checked again yesterday - no results. I forgot about it until just a short while ago. As I scrolled down the list, looking for my time, I saw my name before I expected... You can imagine my surprise when the time beside my name (spelled wrong, but definitely me!) read 43:33!!! I'm skeptical, but the event volunteers have done this race for 13 years! Well, shut my mouth - a new PR!!!! Maybe I need new glasses!
Hey, LDRICHEL! This PR's for you!
