As I mentioned a while ago, I subscribe to a CSA which sends a hearty box of fruits and veggies to me once a week. It's a good amount of food for two people, especially when neither of us eats breakfast really (I know! Forget I said that.) It takes some planning, but I enjoy the challenge and I know I'm eating organic and pretty local, so it's totally worth it.
A couple months ago, I tried a new CSA and canceled a few of CSA #1's deliveries in the meantime. B and I decided we liked CSA #2, so we've been using their stuff. CSA #1 doesn't make it easy to cancel their service for good, so I just keep canceling one delivery at a time. Except for this week, when it slipped my mind. And we received CSA #2 on Monday and then CSA #1 on Wednesday!
Oh, and did I mention we're leaving for a trip in a week?
Ack! Soooo much to eat! Of course I love giving us challenges, so I told B we are gonna do our best not to waste ANY of the food! As of last night, here's what we got:
3 heads of lettuce
12 heirloom tomatoes
1 bunch of celery
1 pound of green beans
6 small sweet potatoes
2 heads of broccoli
1 GIANT canteloupe
2 red onions
3 heads of garlic
4 bell peppers
1 bunch of basil
The trick will be to eat what we can, freeze other stuff (as is or prepared in a dish) and if there's anything left at the end, we'll donate it to friends. But the plan is to use it all. Oh, and since we have a garden, I may end up planting some items if we can't get through them (I'm looking at you, potatoes and garlic)
