August -- IN YO FACE! Some motivation -- and goals!

There is no way to put it off. We can't avoid it. It just happens. The month is anew and it is a mile marker for weight loss communities around the world.

I want to know what August is going to be for you. What will it look like? Yeah, I seriously want to know!

For me, this picture sums it up pretty well:



I am going to continue to eat fresh, quality food. emoticon

I am going to continue to build my endurance in terms of exercise. emoticon

I am going to lose weight. emoticon

Please note the following things that are NOT going to happen this month:

I am NOT going to ban myself from all the foods that I love. emoticon

I am NOT going to work out so intensely that I burn out before the first week of the month is complete. emoticon

I am NOT going to be so strict and starve myself to have a double-digit weight loss month. emoticon



Here are some specific goals that I have for August, 2012:

I am going to wake up 30 minutes early and use at minimum 10 of those minutes to be active. emoticon

I am going to always have lettuce or spinach in the house with other fresh fruits & veggies. emoticon

I am going to complete my final Color Run for 2012 on August 24th. emoticon


Let me explain these a little bit. If you are bored of this blog, comment now and move on to the next... this might get a wee bit long.

First, I started up with emoticon (this time around) in January, 2011. When I started, I committed to the 10-minute Spark Streak that SparkGuy talks about in the book. I was on day 42 when I came down with walking pneumonia. Yeah, seriously. I honestly know that laziness was the reason that I never fully went back to the Spark Streak for success.

Back in 2011, I was losing weight well and I had so much energy. I know that I can contribute that to the morning workouts. I know that this is easy for me to accomplish, so that is my goal this month. (Yes, it is August 1st and I did 10+ minutes today!!)

Next goal is all about the freggies. emoticon As of late, I have let the other people that I live with go grocery shopping. I figured that since I work full time and they don't that I can trust them to handle it. What I forget is that they can live on junk food and I don't want to. I am taking back control and I am committing to eating at least 1 serving of veggies before every dinner - specifically romaine lettuce/spinach.

I love salads and it always makes me feel more satisfied when I have a salad before a meal. I think it comes down to the fact that my mom never served us salad as a kid, but we would always have it with holiday meals. I now associate salads with eating large meals (even if I don't!). I ALWAYS feel more satisfied with I have salad with my meal, so why not do that? I don't really even need any dressing, so it's a no-brainer for me.

Finally, the Color Run. This is something I committed to back in June and I am glad that I did. Having these runs scheduled helps me keep on track with fitness. They are AMAZING motivators and the people there are so supportive and caring! If there is ever a Color Run in your vicinity (I drove 1.5 miles one way to go to the last one!!) please sign up - you will NOT regret it!!



On a personal note, August will be an emotional month. It's my last month of being a preschooler's mommy. My daughter will be starting Kindergarten in September. I always told myself that I would be to my goal weight by that day... but I can't let that goal stop me from progress. I have done that too many times and I love my life too much to leave it earlier than I should.

    emoticon Just dropped by your Page and saw that You did the Color Run, too. I did the one in Oklahoma City in July. It was as much fun as the Pictures make it look!!
Hope your Daughter is enjoying School - And that it wasn't too traumatic for You, LOL!!

    You have some great goals going this month and some great motivators listed to keep you moving on the path that you need to be on. I have signed up to be notified when I can sign up for the Color Run in Honolulu, Hawaii. I hope it happens cause I totally wanna do it.

  I have been following your blogs for a while now and I just want to tell you that I love reading what you write. You are a "typical" mom with many of the same struggles that we all have, yet you are making realistic changes with a positive attitude. Keep doing what you are doing and don't give up. You WILL get there.

I look forward to more blogs and can't wait to hear all about the color run. You're gonna rock it!

- re your comments about taking back the 'grocery shopping' - you are also getting the 'walking exercise' involved in going around the store, as long as you can stay on target and budget! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    For some reason I haven't kept up with your blogs in a while :-( But it's great to see your still going strong, and that color run still looks amazing!

That's great that you're not restricting foods you love, my goal is to eat a healthy version of pizza twice this month (be it a healthy "version" or serving size)

August for me will be my first "personal" (more so virtual) 5k. It's a day after your 5k :-)

Finally (sorry for the long comment), not sure if you're worried about salad dressing for calories, but if you use regular mustard (especially if the salad is lettuce, spinach, tomato, chicken and onion), mustard virtually has 0 calories. I hate regular salad dressings, but I like mustard... so one day I decided to do that.

August for me is the beginning of ragweed season. Where I live (NC) it can last up to 4 months. My allergy is severe. Getting enough sleep becomes even more of a problem during allergy seasons. I already suffer from insomnia, but I have been managing it much better. One of my August goals is to continue getting 7 or more hours of sleep a night. Sleep is really important if I want to manage my allergies and my exercise and diet goals.
