Having a good day for a change

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

Having a good day for a change. No chemo side effects today, but usually the day after I'm ok; it's usually the 2nd or 3rd day that I start feeling them. I slept good last night, slept in a little bit this morning, (but not so long that it should keep me awake tonight) with minimum pain. I was able to put off taking a pain pill until 11:30am. My shoulder was starting to hurt then. It wasn't bad, but my doctors are always telling me to stay on top of the pain, to take the pills before it gets too bad. I'm just bad sometimes about waiting too long because I don't like how tired they make me feel.

I've been having a craving for porcupine meatballs, (those are meatballs made with rice in them, in a tomato sauce). I bought the ingredients yesterday. Since I knew I might not have the energy later in the day, I made the meatballs this morning. Now all I have to do when I'm ready to bake them is pour the sauce on them before I stick them in the oven.

Been puttering around the house a little bit, but not doing anything too strenuous. My goal is to have some "spoons" left for Saturday.

glad you had a good day! You definitely deserve it. I have had the porcupine meatballs but have to say they aren't my favorite. Actually I don't eat any meatballs often.

You're a smart cookie, Shari - making those meatballs early, when you've still got adequate energy for the job. I'm proud of you! (If I were your mother, I'd be braggin', believe me.) I haven't ever had the pleasure of eating porcupine meatballs, but I've seen recipes for them...and they look really appealing and satisfying! Let us know how they turn out for you.

Yes, that's the difficult part of some pain meds: they make us drowsy. But I've found that the more often I keep up with taking them (and keeping up with the pain, when I have it), the more the fatigue tends to ebb away over time. That's just been my experience, anyway.

Keep storing away those spoons for Saturday! You're doing a good job :) emoticon

Your meatballs sound really good! You were smart to fix them in the cool of the morning before you were too tired.

Porcupines!? I didn't know anyone else knew about those! I'm from northern Indiana and my mom used to make those and now I do. Surprised to see you mention them. So glad you're having a good day!
