Unwrapping a new month...

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

August...hot...busy...stressfu
l...crazy! Those are the first 4 words that come to mind when I think of August. emoticon

I am making a choice today to look at the month of August as a present and unwrap it to see what it has in store.

Hot? Well, it has been historically a pretty hot month here in the south! I think of those hot days out on the playground with the new class. But...I'm choosing today to think about how blessed I am to have that job with those sweet children when many are without right now. I am blessed to live in a house! Especially one with central heat and air. I am blessed to have a swimming pool to cool off in.

Busy? Stressful? Crazy? Those 3 seem to go together. Yes, August is a pretty busy month as we go back to school. Yes, it can get crazy and stressful. But...I'm choosing today to look at all the positives that go along with this time! Again, I have a job doing what I love to do. There are many teachers in my area that are working in other jobs because the openings are not there. I am blessed and thankful to be able to do what I do. I am thankful for the time that I have spent getting organized at school. I know I grumbled along the way about all the things on my to do list. But, overall, I am so thankful to start off this (my 20th year!) more organized than ever before! I am thankful to God for giving me energy and direction to take those steps to getting organized!

The organization at school and home are both on-going projects. It's kind of like my fat...It's been around for a long time and it's therefore gonna take time to get it in shape! But I am so thankful for the drive, determination, and energy to keep working on it instead of letting it get me down, depressed, and stressed! (Note to future Leisa if you come back to reread for inspiration: HOLD ON TO THIS! This is good stuff! And it is all true!)

I woke up this morning feeling like I needed to continue to look for areas to simplify and organize in my life. Spark People is one of them. Somewhere along the way I got into too many teams and added too many friends. I don't mean for this to sound harsh or cold, but I am cutting back. I want to focus on quality not quantity. I want to be able to really be involved with the teams and friends I have. I want to be active and encouraging as I support them. I've made some cuts today and will probably continue to cut over the next little bit.

So...as I unwrap this shiny new month in front of me...I'm choosing to look at it differently than Augusts in the past. I am going to be thankful for each and every moment! With all this being said, here are my goals for August:

1. Begin each day with prayer and praise!
2. Move every day...minimum 10 minutes, but with a goal of 30+
3. Eliminate fried foods, second helpings, sodas, and sweet tea.
4. Track my food, movement, and feelings in a journal with a focus on the positives!

So...there you go! My plans for a gift from God! What about you? Do you have goals for August? Thank you for being my emoticon along this journey! I wish you the very best in your journey to a healthier you. emoticon

Hugs and blessings!
Walking in joy,
Leisa emoticon emoticon

Leisa, Reading your goals helps me to define for myself my own goals, if that makes any sense at all. I admire your positive attitude and determination and am so thankful to have you for a Sparkfriend. Good luck in achieving your goals this month!

    Leisa,
You are such an encouragement to me!
Being positive is what we need to do. Please go and read my blog for today, aug 2. Positives for my daughter, or something like that.
I focused on what was positive, and what the Lord had provided, not the difficult in her delivery. God is good, and He is always aware of what we are going through.
Praise Him. emoticon emoticon emoticon

having too many teams keeps me on the computer far too long every day....
I am going to take a couple of breaks for a couple of the challenges and just focus on one of them and do it well....

it seems strange for school to have had holidays at this time of the year....having said that our holidays are in our summer too...it is just that our summer is when you have winter and visa versa....

It makes such a BIG difference doing a job that you love....
I have one of those as well....

I can relate to having too many teams. I don't feel I can do justice to them all. I don't want to cut any friends, as I thought about each one, whether I felt a connection with them.
How wonderful to start with a whole room full of new personalities to help guide to new learning. You are truly blessed. (I know it is also hard work) emoticon

Enjoyed your blog. Sometime counting our blessings really helps us to see things in a new light. What a great attitude you have as you return to the classroom!

Very glad I made the cut and I think it is time for me to cut back on some friends that really don't interact with me any more. That isn't bad it just is. Just like I need to get rid of old things in the classroom that don't support my students needs, I need to rid myself of friends that don't meet my needs. I am glad you did this. Stress isn't good and being stretched thin on too many teams means no one gets your valued insight and support.

    Great outlook on life!
I know exactly what you mean about August being stressful for teachers. I've been retired 5 years but I spent 35.5 years teaching first, second, and third grades. I loved every minute of teaching, but I also love not being so busy and stressed in August!
Stay as positive as you are now and you'll be sure to stay on track.

    Love it. Thanks so much.
And I really liked this: "It's been around for a long time and it's therefore gonna take time to get it in shape." I can so relate.
