Temptation. It takes strange forms sometimes. I can avoid it around the house most of the time by controlling what I keep in the pantry/fridge. I don't usually have much trouble at work, as long as I remembered to bring my lunch. Today... I was *really* glad I remembered to bring my lunch.
Usually I have my office to myself, but today was one of those unusual days where there was someone else working there with me. (Or, at least, near me.) No, wise guys, I wasn't tempted to eat my co-worker. It was his lunch. He went to McDonald's and brought it back to the office, sat at the other desk in my office and proceeded to eat it right there next to me. I avoided looking at it. I couldn't avoid smelling it. Hearing it. The fries sounded crispy. I've always had a horrible weak spot for french fries.
If I hadn't gone through the effort this morning of making myself lunch, I might have ended up at the drive-thru. I am happy to report that wasn't the outcome. As I was sitting there eating my tasty turkey sandwich a bit later, it tasted all the the better. It may not have been a carton of french fries, but the crisp lettuce sounded almost as good and it was just as satisfying to my growling stomach. More than that, it was satisfying to me mentally and emotionally as well.
