Went to the doctor's today, got the results of my last blood test...No wonder I'm not losing weight!! My metabolism's all messed up!
There's this hormone that fat cells produce, leptin, and it's supposed to tell the brain "to control eating, induce satiety, and increase energy expenditure. It (leptin) controls weight loss by decreasing hunger and consumption of food..." (quoted from the handout my doctor gave me)
Now the normal range of leptin in adult females in my age range with BMI's between 25 to 30 (my BMI is a bit higher than that

) is 8.0 to 38.9.
Uhhh...I'm at 92.2.
This means that while my fat cells are producing leptin up the wazzu, my brain isn't getting the message-thus, my metabolism isn't working right.
WOW! There really *is* a medical reason why I can't lose weight! My brain won't let me! Darn brain...thanks to it, I have ADD on top of everything else.
So, my doctor and I discussed what I can do to get my brain to start processing the leptin from my fat cells.
First, she recommended I take a supplement that's supposed to help the liver function better (the liver aids in fat metabolism). I'll start taking that tonight after dinner (2 pills once a day with a meal).
Next, she and I talked about ways I can get my body moving more, taking into account my mobility issues with my knee. I'm going to start walking around my neighborhood again, wearing my brace and using my cane.
While I thought about joining my local rec center, with being unemployed at the moment, I need to conserve my funds. I do have chair exercise dvds though. I haven't been using them because there's no free space in my living room for even a chair! (I am organizing my house, but I'm starting with the upstairs first because then I'll have spaces for the things downstairs that need to go upstairs.)
Then it dawned on me...(ADD, linear thinking, remember?) I recently moved my laptop from the living room to the kitchen table in anticipation of starting my anatomy & physiology class and needing more flat area to study and take notes. Hey! I can sit on a chair at the kitchen table, move my laptop to the left side of my table, and do the exercises in the kitchen, playing the dvd on my laptop!! Eureka!!
The table's gotten a bit cluttered (

gee, wonder how *that* happened?!), so I'll take care of that.
