I Love Walking

Monday, July 30, 2012

This photo was part of a SparkPeople e-mail message today. I figure it's supposed to mean "I love walking as an exercise." That's one possibility. It struck me a different way, though: "I love being able to walk." If I don't do something about my complete lack of exercise, I'm not going to be able to walk, whether I enjoy it or not.

Its a lesson I learned early on in my disease. If I don't move, I will lose my abilities to walk, to do, to live. Yes, it may be painful and a struggle to get out of bed in the morning and take that first step towards my exercise. But once I get over the hump, and I loosen up and start to feel better and the endorphins start to flow, I feel on top of the world. My exercise keeps me feeling alive. The key is making it enjoyable and fun. Walk in a beautiful park with soft earth trails. Listen to your favorite music. Lose track of time and your worries and just notice your surroundings. You might be surprised at what you discover. A gorgeous yard, nicely laid out. A cute dog. A beautiful bird. A quiet park. Discovers corners of your city you never knew existed.
You can do this! Walk away those worries!
