Weekend Update and The Olympics

Overall the weekend was not too bad. Saturday was very active and Sunday was very not.
My trainer workout on Saturday was tough but good. Just what I needed! After that I went to a little farm stand and bought tons of veggies. The big plan for Saturday was to have a cookout with my parents, sister, and her boyfriend. When I got home I cleaned the house and then spent a bit of time running around making food. The weather had been beautiful all day until about an hour before my family arrived. Suddenly the skies opened up and it was down pouring. DH set up a tent so I could still grill since the plan was to grill steak tips and chicken. While grilling I realized I had not grilled yet this year. I made a salad with spring mix lettuce, stir fried zucchini and summer squash as a side, stir fried mushrooms, and made corn on the cob. Those were the healthy options. My parents brought potato salad and macaroni salad. I ate a little too much potato salad- it is my weakness, but only a small taste of macaroni salad. I did over eat but I focused on the healthy stuff. Dessert was fruit with a choc dip and an ice cream roll. I had strawberries, cherries, and watermelon and they were a hit with everyone. I had a piece of the ice cream roll too. My goal was to stick to one piece and I did pretty well with that until later in the evening. At the time I overate on fruit. After everyone went home I began watching the Olympics. I made it through most of the opening ceremonies. I also got into the ice cream roll. I mentioned in the past I how fixate on food. Having an ice cream roll in the house was not a good idea. I wish more of it was eaten by my family. I was happy though that I got a smaller ice cream roll instead of a larger ice cream cake. I sent the leftover potato and macaroni salad home with my parents.
Sunday I was basically a lump on the couch. I LOVE the summer Olympics and every time they are on TV I try to watch as much as possible. I record as much as I can using two DVRs. I am usually at least a day behind. Sometimes more. I end up being able to watch the Olympics for about a month. By then I am tired of them anyway. It did strike me as odd that in celebration of great athleticism I am a completely inactive couch potato. I tend to watch very little TV lately so being a couch potato is kind of odd. Every spare minute will be spent catching up on the Olympics. They are my priority for the week. The Summer Olympics only come around for 2 weeks every 4 years so I figure other stuff can wait while I enjoy them. In a perfect world I would be able to take some time off from work but work is just too busy. My days will mostly consist of working out, going to work, and then all Olympics all the time. I spend most of my time trying to watch what I need to before it gets erased from the DVR. I have one DVR recording in HD and that uses up space fast. As of yesterday, I had finished all of Saturday but had not even started Sunday yet. I do fast forward quite a bit. I don't have to watch every minute of every game but I do want to get a flavor of everything.
Eating wasn't great yesterday. I was hungry but did not really want to cook. I did not want to be away from the TV as I had a lot to catch up on. I ate mostly healthy all day except I did finish off that ice cream roll. At least it is GONE! DH got us take out from a Japanese steak house for dinner. That was really good and too much food. Mostly too much rice. I also got in very little exercise.
I am not feeling too bad about things. I didn't eat as well as I would have liked over the weekend but it could have been worse. I don't feel out of control at all. I have tons of veggies left for the week and plan to make stir fries most nights. I plan to buy some vegetarian "meat" to have with the veggies today. I really like Tofurky brand vegan sausages. They are made with non gmo soy. In time I plan to make my own veggie burgers and things like that but for now the ready made stuff will have to do. For whatever reason, a plate of veggies just doesn't feel like a complete meal.
I completely acknowledge that it is silly to be so into the Olympics but I guess it's just my thing. Some things will be put on the back burner to make time for them and that will just have to be ok. My big goals are to keep up with my workouts and to eat healthy. Having a fridge stocked with fruits and veggies is a big help.
