Marine Corps Marathon training: Week 3 recap

Sunday, July 29, 2012

No major aches or pains. so another good week.

Monday was an easy, short run followed by 7+ miles of hills on Tuesday. I needed to leave early a.m. Thursday for an overnight business trip to metro Cleveland so I did my 6 mile tempo run Wednesday instead. Now I fully understand the rest day between hills and tempo. It was 85F when I went out. I did an easy warm up mile, then set my metronome on 180 BPM for the 4 miles, followed by an easy 1 mile cool down. Average for the 6 miles was 8:47AP, with my fastest miles at 8:15 and 8:16.

Took Thursday as my rest day and ran a very fatigued 3.75 miles Friday followed by a productive 11 mile long, slow run Saturday.

Weekly target miles = 30 miles. Actual miles = 31.65

Food was a mixed bag for the week. I tracked well early in the week but was not focused while away on business, although I did get to have Thai food with SPer JAN_FRANDSEN. I was back on track today.

On to week 4, with no business travel in the plan! Looking forward to my break between hills and tempo.

Good for you for sticking with the mileage during a hectic week of travel. Must have been nice to meet with Jan in Ohio, too!
