Video of me busting up a sidewalk with a sledgehammer!!

Sunday, July 29, 2012

Here's a video of me breaking up a concrete sidewalk with a sledgehammer. The sidewalk had 2 sections, about 5 feet long and 3 feet long by 3 feet wide. When I went to rent the sledgehammer and said what I wanted to do, the guys at the rental store looked at each other and LAUGHED! Then they said it would take me "DAYS" to do it, if I even could. Adding in, "Don't wear those sandals when you do it." Uh, thanks, but I was actually planning on doing it barefoot (not!)

I actually went to another rental place a couple weeks ago to check things out and he wouldn't even let me see the sledgehammer saying, "there's no way you can do it that way... this is when you get your boyfriend to help."

Ok... I'm just over 5 ft 3 and a size 4/6 but I've a lot of strength in this small package! The job took me about AN HOUR, and I did it AFTER I ran and worked out, too, and this was my recovery day after running 15 miles yesterday!

Oh, and PS: I built that wall and the built-in cabinet that is behind me in the first shot, framed and installed those doors, finished the drywall and painted everything, moved that window over from the right side of the room, wired the whole room, refinished the hardwood floors, and installed the chandelier overhead... among other things. :)

Very nice. As for that abandoned nearby tire, you can start swinging at it next, or perhaps even do a tire flip for another total-body workout. :D

What's funny is when I was looking on YouTube for videos on how to properly swing a sledgehammer, there were SO many workout videos showing workouts with one - most hitting a big old truck tire. It almost seems like the truck tire would not give you the full workout, in a way, because of the rebound action after the sledge hits the tire.

I felt this had worked my quads, triceps, upper back/lats, traps, somewhat in my deltoids and also a bit in my torso/abs. It actually does give you a pretty good workout.

I do have a big truck tire someone dumped however many years ago in the ravine/alley behind my house. Hmmm... LOLOLOL

I told you that it wouldn't be as hard as you thought, nevermind the fool at the rental place ..... boyfriend indeed!!!

It's amazing how much you can get on the down stroke once you've hefted it over your shoulder. I'm 56 and I still wield the sledgehammer and axe (probably shouldn't) but you do what you've gotta do.

This clip was terrific!!!

LOL Lecates!! I just got done running and doing my own "boot camp" workout (sets of push-ups, walking lunges, squats, ab work, etc) in 80 degree weather! I look so sweaty and gross I thought about not posting it but whatever... Well if this were a make-up blog I would look differently perhaps :)
