I am a little bummed, but still hopeful.
We’ve been cleaning and reorganizing like crazy to get ready for the open house today.
Yesterday we literally spent ALL day working on the house… doing the little things that we don’t always think about like scrubbing behind/under appliances, etc. The boyfriend used the hose and a scrub brush to clean the siding on the entire house in this horrible heat.
This morning we did the finishing touches… we swept, mopped, vacuumed, cleaned the cat box, and hoped for the best.
The realtor got here right on time and told us that she had three people coming out to look at the house.
Apparently she put signs out at the major road to show that there was an open house around midnight last night, but someone took them down. She had a couple of smaller signs and put them out on her way to the house and she put up some balloons.
When we checked back in with her after the open house… she had one couple show up to see the house.
We were a little disappointed to hear that the other two didn’t show up and that no one else wandered by the house.
The good news is that the couple that saw the place seemed interested. They are currently renting an apartment with someone and their share of the rent in their current apartment would be more than they’d be paying if they bought our house… and here they’d have the place to themselves!
They have a lease that isn’t up until January so the realtor said they were going to discuss things tonight and see if they could get out of their lease.
We told the realtor that if they couldn’t get out of their lease, but they wanted the house… we could rent the house from them until their lease expires!
That would actually work out perfectly!
We’d sell the house, which means we could start building the new house.
We could rent the house from them until their lease expires, which would mean we wouldn’t have to move twice and they wouldn’t have to break their lease!
We could save a little money and they could make a little money because we’d be willing to pay them a little more than their mortgage payment (their payment would be less than ours), plus we’d still be paying all of the utilities here.
So I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t have more people stop by for the open house, but I’m hopeful that something will work out with the couple that did come see the house today.
The realtor said that she’d give them a courtesy call tomorrow to see what they thought about the house and we told her that if they were hesitant because of the lease situation to tell them that we’d be willing to rent the place back from them until their lease expires and we can move into the new house.
We also informed the realtor that our listing online did NOT mention anything about the open house. She mentioned that someone else in the office was supposed to update the listing, but that if we’d told her she could have done it this morning. I think that would have been a little too late though. She said she’s going to make sure the listing is updated to show the open house on Saturday so we’ll be keeping a close eye on it. We might have had a better open house if people actually knew about it!
I’m still crossing everything and saying my prayers!
Now that just about anything that could possibly be cleaned in this house has been cleaned… I can focus on the family reunion on Saturday. Eek!! Thank goodness we’ve pretty much got packing, setting up, cleaning up, and unpacking down to a science at this point because I have not spent much time preparing for this year.
