Door County day 2

I did it!!!! I biked the 9.5 mile trail and it was not as bad as I was afraid it was going to be. Don't get me wrong, it was hard, but it didn't kill me. My mom had said that I could stop 4 times and I only stopped once. For everyone that is reading this as the first blog entry, to motivate me my parents said that if I could bike the Peninsula state park bike trail they would give me $50. I trained for weeks and had gotten to eight miles. Last year when we went to DC I biked the trail with my mom and it was really really hard. I had to stop multiple times and complained the whole way, I thought I was going to die(an exaggeration) but I did not have fun at all. What a difference a year makes! The biggest change I think was my attitude. I actually enjoyed the bike ride, it was beautiful.

Yesterday we drove up here and arrived around 2. We unpacked and went out to lunch at the Cookery in Fish Creek. I had an eggplant and green olive flatbread with parmesan cheese. I didn't finish it! I normally would have eaten the whole thing, but I left two slices. After that we went to the Piggly Wiggly and went grocery shopping, after that we went back to the room and hung out. I tried to teach my mom the entrelac stitch for knitting and then we went out to eat at a really nice restaurant, the name is escaping me right now, but we always go the first day each year and it is my dad's favorite. He loves the key lime pie they have there. we had sweet potato fries for an appetizer and I only had a few (5-10). For dinner I had pesto whitefish, it was really good, it came with veggies and rice pilaf on the side. I finished everything, it was really good. My dad ordered desert and I didn't order anything. We went back to the room and caught the last half of the opening ceremonies. I ate two skinny cow ice cream bars that I had gotten when we went grocery shopping, they were so good.

Today we woke up around ten, I had breakfast and my parents went for a three mile run. after that we did the bike trail. We ate lunch at Julie's cafe, well we all ordered breakfast foods for lunch. I had something that was made up of two eggs scrambled with hash browns, onions, and cheese, that came with a bagel. I also ordered a fresh fruit bowl. I was so famished from biking the 9.5 miles that I ate everything. We checked out a new coffee shop after that. The coffee shop was in a funky little store that would be the perfect place for my jewelry. I asked the owner how she gets her jewelry, and she explained that she buys from all sorts of sources. She was interested in my stuff after I described what I make to her, and asked me to email her my etsy site and facebook page.

I have come to a decision up here. I am not going to worry about tracking my foods, I will track my water, but it is really hard to track food when I go out to eat and I don't want to obsess over everything I eat, I am on vacation after all. I am going to try and order something healthy and eat less than I normally would. I will also exercise just about every day, but I won't worry too much about what I am eating, I will just enjoy myself.

Sounds like a fun trip. Enjoy yourself. Just a thought but I always try to track fruit/veggies as well because I know for me those tend to go down when I am on vacation.

Congrats on the bike ride! That is fabulous. Just imagine what you will be doing by next year!

Sometimes tracking can be a pain but the big idea of tracking is paying attention to what you're eating. You're doing that! You're also biking a lot, which will increase your appetite. So as long as you don't use this time to overly splurge and indulge in things that are obviously greatly unhealthy, I'm sure you'll do just fine. When you are home and have more control over what you're eating get back into it.

You're doing great! Be proud of your accomplishment and use that reward from your parents to get yourself something you want for your journey to better health - like a yoga mat, exercise ball, pedometer, weights, etc which can help push you closer to your goals!

It will be hard to estimate the calories of food at restaurants. Eat the healhiest prepared thing. If you eat a little too much, you are still working out. If not, get back on track when you get home. Congratulations on accomplishing your bicycling goal. I took my family cycling on the local trails here. It goes 50 miles to the next town. We did not go that far, but we rode for an hour and a half. Enjoy your vacation.
