I am working today and am trying to figure out ways to get more steps in.
Here's my typical weekend work routine:
9:00 come in, take a walk around the department and make sure everyone is ok
9:30 do stuff on the computer
10:30 take another walk around, then head downstairs to do laps
11:00 back upstairs and back on the computer, eat lunch, read
12:30 walk around again, maybe head downstairs for another 20 minutes of walking then back to the computer
1:30 final rounds, send the daily rundown to my boss
The 30 minutes of laps comes to about 3000 steps. Estimating another 1000 for regular walking to get here, around the department, trips to get water and to the restroom brings me to about 4000 by the time I head out.
Today I made a conscious effort to work in steps just doing normal things. Every time I got up to get water, go talk to someone, use the restroom, I did a lap around the floor to get there. I went outside and did one and a half laps around our building. No laps downstairs yet and probably won't be able to since there are painters in one of the offices today and they have stuff spread out all over the hall. But I still have over 3000 steps in for the day and it is just after 11:00.
I am excited that it is not too difficult to find ways to increase my steps without having to set aside a big chunk of time to do it. I know to get up to 10,000 steps that I will need to both work in extra walking as I have today, and a longer walk at home. But I am glad that I will be able to get more in here at work with just a little extra effort!
