Scratched Again

Well, I'm finishing July with 360 miles on my bike and I can't ride Miles of Smiles today, because of this stupid foot! :( I went to the dr. yesterday and she put me in a walking boot for a week. I have to wear it all the time except for showers and bed...and I have to wear a plastic bag on my foot for showers because she put a soft cast on it. I had no idea it would be this bad.

A word to the wise here: Do NOT do your own physical therapy. Go, suck it up and pay the money, and you'll be glad you did. I'm still paying for my daughter's PT from her ACL strain this past spring, and I decided to just go online and find a few strength-building exercises for my feet, and do them on my own rather than pay $500 for PT that my insurance wouldn't cover. Turns out, the dr. didn't want me to do strength-building exercises. I was supposed to be getting whirlpool treatments and massages on my feet to reduce the inflammation!!! Grrr if I had known that I would've been all over it!!! :(

Anyway. I have to wear this boot until next Friday when I see her again, and then maybe I will actually start PT. She is adjusting the orthotic too, since I can't wear a shoe on this foot until then.

Yesterday was my pity party. I thought to myself, "At the start of the summer, I had to quit running and quit walking, and I could only bike or swim. Now, I can't run, walk, bike, swim, or drive a car." Well, I can drive a car...with my left foot. Yeah, I'd rather not!

I guess it's my own fault. :/

Last night Dan and I were sitting by the pool and talking about how I'm going to exercise while I have this thing on my foot. I can't not exercise. I'm just not programmed like this anymore. But anyway, I'm surprised he suggested it, because he is totally not an exerciser, but he said I should bring my ball and dumbbells back out and just do that. I've been missing the gym this summer for that very reason, but my dumbbells are so light and my ball needs air. However this morning I did it, I got 20 minutes of ST on my arms and abs before putting my boot on.

Today for MOS, I'm going to work the registration tent instead of actually doing the ride, which my oldest daughter is pretty happy about; I had signed her up to do it, and she did NOT want to get up at 5am. ;) I will be jealous of all the other riders, but at least I'll be doing something instead of feeling sorry for myself.

    Something is better than nothing. In addition to your ST. What about pilates, which is mostly seated? Dont forget to adjust your calorie intake to account for the less activity.
