i started the year with a vague "i'm going to lose weight" .... i exercised more, i joined a gym, i started eating even more fruits and veggies .... and i lost about five pounds .... it took about a month ... and then i lost nothing .. even though i told myself i was still trying .... so .. by march, i was searching and figuring and had LUCKILY bought a spark people book on my kindle just cause i found it on a kindle list ... and there ya go ... i found spark people dot com and slowly and steadily figured it out ... in the first couple days of joining i decided, and put in print on my spark page, that i was going to lose 40 pounds .... it seemed absurd and unlikely at the time ... but, i'm an optimist and decided there's no harm in trying.

and it is working.
that's worth saying again.
spark people dot com is working for me ....
not even counting the five pounds i lost this year before i joined spark people, i have lost 20 pounds. i have lost 20 of the declared 40. you don't even have to be an optimist to know that's a totally cool thing.
i'm not doing it fast.
i'm not great at tracking my food ... i eat mnm's regularly, just two or three, and never log them .... i keep cinnamon candies in my car and i don't log them either.

but, i do have something working in my favor ... i LOVE to exercise ... that's made it easier for sure ... and it counter balances the chocolate chip cookies...
but spark people has helped me figure out exercise ... i have totally amped it up ... i play a lot of tennis, have run in my first 5k in 25 years (first i had to train up to that), i adore the elliptical and never would have tried it prior to the spark, and i can do push ups now ... and all sorts of things that i've built up to using the spark exercise videos ...
i try to exercise every day ... that's so spark people doing that for me ... i rest by alternating hard days and easy days ... easy days are 30 minutes on the elliptical ... yesterday was a hard day .. i jogged three and a half miles in the morning and played two and a half hours of tennis in the evening ....
today i did 15 extra minutes on my easy ellip day just so i could finish my book ... yay!45 minutes and i get to start a new book ....

so, the eating thing, i'm muddling through .... eating more mindfully ... even if it is sometimes mindfully eating a cookie ..... and i'm rocking out the excercise .... i'm proud of how far i've come ..... and ... i've lost 20 pounds.....

20 more to go ... no problem.....
pass me a cookie ... wait ... make it just half a cookie.

    Life is meant to be lived and sometimes that means eating a cookie...or two. I actually love the Kashi cookies (I log them). One with milk satisfies my cookie craving. I also eat a few semi-sweet chocolate chips nearly everyday, and I don't log them. But, I bet you are like me and are mindful of the calories and stay in range anyhow. That is the beauty of spark and getting healthy, being mindful and aware and making better (not perfect) choices. I have learned it isn't all or nothing. And, everything in moderation.
