My skinny on skinny...

Friday, July 27, 2012

I was watching a commercial the other day and a particular woman in the commercial was that lovely kind of skinny and what popped in to my mind at that moment was, "it must be easier to be skinny" That got me to thinking about what that easy meant to me. Things like, if you are skinny your close fit better. If you are skinny you probably don't have numbers jumping around in your head which amount to you rattling off how many calories every effing thing you put in your mouth has. If your are skinny your world is probably not about weigh-ins, calories in calories out, plateaus, tricking yourself out of hungry, you know, the list could go on forever. Skinny seems easier right? Then I got to thinking about a woman I work with and she is really skinny. Is her world easier, I am not so sure. You see, I have never seen her eat a meal. She works out during her lunch break (which is fine I know), but no lunch. I asked her once, she said she does not eat breakfast or lunch, just a big dinner, and she snacks during the day. I have never seen her snack. During office birthday celebrations, she rarely partakes, and if she does, it is the tiniest morsel, barely a crumb on the plate. What I do see her do, is chew gum all day and drink coffee, which is one of those tricks, you know, to make yourself less hungry. That does not sound easy to me at all, it sounds awful. Which is worse, worry about not putting anything in your mouth, or putting too much. It seems like a tough price to pay to be skinny...

There is a balance out there, that land they call moderation. That is the kind of skinny world that sounds easy. I am never going to give up breakfast, lunch or dinner. I am not going to not partake in an office birthday celebration, or turn down a glass of wine or two. That is just not the skinny I want to me. Actually, my skinny is learning to accept what my heart thinks about what my head sees in the mirror, not matter what the scale says, or the BMI chart, or the unrealistic view the world has on skinny. I am talking about the REAL skinny. The skinny that includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and gum is used to freshen the breath!!! That's my skinny on skinny!!!

Moderation is the key term! She sounds anorexic to me.

That is a great way to think about being skinny. I think it makes much more sense to eat healthy and enjoy life then to not eat anything at all during the day. That really does sound horrible!
