I decided this go round I was going to plan to do some time-related milestones. In 3 months I would like to take part in the American Lung Association's Fight for Air. This is a fundraiser for them that requires the participants to climb 38 floors worth of steps (not sure if that means 38 flights?) at the Mariott Hotel here in Anchorage. I am going to see if friends or family are interested, but if not it won't stop me from entering as a solo participant! Participants can dress up, since it is in the month of October (3 months from now!) and the only requirement is the entrance fee. I am excited to prove to myself that I can accomplish this. It will be a far cry from where I am right now. I can climb mountains, even though I stop somewhat frequently, but climbing stairs is more difficult. I started climbing stairs at work, like I used to do on my previous loss, during my 15 minute break. After eating my snack, I ended up with 5 minutes to climb so I did. Oh boy. I made it up twice in that time, 5 floors, 18 flights of approximately 8 (?) stairs. I will count for you next time.
I haven't decided what I will do in 6 months, which falls in January.
In a year, which is next summer of course, I plan on taking part in the color run, which is a fun run in which every kilometer of a 5k course you accomplish a different color of powdered cornstarch is flecked on you so at the end you are completely colored in beautiful rainbow shades. I am excited! It reminds me of the color festival I see in pictures of India. This version you can walk, jog, or run so all ages and skill levels are welcome. Mine will take place in Seattle, where a friend lives, so I am hoping it will be a fairly affordable trip, but they take place in cities all over the country. I think when I am done I will frame my shirt. How cool does this look!
