First Karate Class

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Wow today was my first Karate class and it was AWESOME! My husband came too and he had a fantastic time as well.

We started with "warm ups" - I'm going to list them below for my benefit so I can start practicing them. So I was ready to crash after the warm-up, but others appeared to have some trouble with the push-ups making me feel a little better about myself. I however was beat red and having trouble catching my breath.

I was partnered with an orange belt teenager, luckily she attends the cage fitness class that I go to and she knew it was my first class. She helped me a lot and was very encouraging. I did okay the class was all different belt levels so it was hard to not get distracted by what the Deshi was teaching the other students cause it was sooo cool.

The end of class we had some extra time so the class elected to practice their nunchuck technique. My daughter is an orange belt in the kids class but hasn't used hers much so I was not very familiar, I'm just happy I didn't hit myself in the head. Deshi said we did a great job, especially since it was our first class :)

Tomorrow cage fitness, Saturday class number 2!

20 (3 count) jumping jacks
10 Toe Touches (toe, belt, overhead)
10 windmills
various stretching (lunge, leg, neck etc)
plank (3 sets one normal, and one on each side (those sucked!)
30 push-ups (2 sets of 15)
45 sit-ups (3 sets of various types and reps - NOT A FAN)
10 rising kicks
10 high knees
10 inside/outside knee lifts
10 butt kickers
5 jumping knee tuck
there may be more but I possibly blacked out at this point :)

Thanks, my kids have attended this school since late last year so we are very comfortable with the staff and the location is super close to the house. Our first class was free and most places offer some sort of trial cheap or free to see if you like it.

We also do a cage fitness program there which is a fantastic quick 30 min workout and cheaper than the karate classes (we got a good deal cause of our kids training there too). I wish you luck and hope you find something you can both do together it really makes a big difference.

Sounds awesome! Glad you hung in there. I am looking for something physical that my husband and I can do together maybe I will bring something along these lines up to him. Your workout tomorrow sounds challenging but fun. Have a great time and keep up the great work! emoticon
