Cast Removed, Told To Walk!

Thursday, July 26, 2012

I had been told that I was not to put any weight on my right foot for 6 to 8 weeks. With my weight and age I figured it would be 8 and perhaps longer. God is good. The cast was removed today, x-rays were taken, the bones are healed and the doctor said to start walking. Right now that means with a walker and I am being careful but progress is being made!

For those of you who have been praying, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I know those prayers were heard at the throne of God.

As far as I know the 10 pins and the plate(s) will remain but I have already walked around in my house several times today. Not very far but I am walking!

Now to work more diligently to get this weight off and keep it off.

I am so glad you were able to heal so fast. (I know this is an old blog!) Hope you are still walking. I find it is really refreshing. Makes me feel good to know that I am hopefully helping my body especially my Osteoporosis. Have a great day!

I know I'm about to sound like my grandson when he asks me to tell him more stories about when his mom was little, but here goes:

Tell us more about life on Guam, and any nutrition, fitness or health issues that are specific to this island environment especially WRT your goals.

Oh my gosh!!!! 10 pins and a plate!!!! I had a similar-but-different break in 83. I know yours was very very bad if you have 10 pins & a plate (ask me how I know).

So glad you are walking on it and it is healed. Your ligaments etc will get up to speed soon with you walking on it.

I'm with you on spotlighting diligence in getting the rest off. We can do it!

Good for you , so you broke the tibia or fibula, or both. You were lucky not to brake the medial maleuos which holds the ankle and foot together. Not that you were lucky to brake you leg , you know what I mean. Will you be in Physical Therapy ? If not I can post some very easy pictures of the foot exercises that I did to gain the strength in my leg and foot. Very simple non aggressive. Bet it felt good to have that cast removed!!! I could not wait to shave. I had to have my pins removed in order to walk - my pins were located over the ankle and prevented me from dorsi flexion. I have holes in my bones now that's why I cannot run or impact aerobics. Do you plan on water walking , in a pool ? Really helped me!! Tell me if I am over stepping my boundaries in advice but, one more thing , I know this is hard right now, but, when you walk with the walker be sure to keep your right foot straight and try a full step , without stepping on the side with your toes to the right. I wish some would have mentioned this to me. Reason being that , the incorrect movement will cause great pain in the meniscus part of your knee, that is very painful. I had to do extra PT due to this. Off to the Hospital for CT scans of , heart , spleen , kidneys , liver and bladder. Blood results returned yesterday with good new, White Blood Cells in normal count!!! Yippee Hugs and Prayers emoticon emoticon One more thing New Balance is the best shoe !
