My mother-in-law Maria, lost her battle with lung cancer on July 18th after a week in the hospital. She lived almost two years longer then doctors estimated and while she was sometimes scared, she was determined to not give up. She was suffering badly the last few days at the end so it was a blessing for her to pass on.

God was good in that my husband and son had been working about 15 miles from her home the past few months instead of our regular 90 miles away. His company had been paying the hotel and they were able to visit with her during the week, have dinner, spend time with her. My husband called me last Monday night at 11 pm, asking me to drive to Clearwater, he didn't think his mom was going to last much longer.

So I drove the 90 miles in a torrential downpour, at 12 at night, dead tired, got there at 2 am. She had the oxygen mask on and was hard to understand but she was mostly lucid. Her 5 grand kids were there, her brother flew in from Connecticut the next day with his wife. I got airport duty. coming and going.

The priest came for the blessing, she was surrounded by her family when she took her last breath, everyone was holding her hands, touching her arms, feet, she was surrounded.

So my week has been spent making funeral arrangement's, the wake, ect.
living in a hotel, trying to keep things together.

We are currently going through her stuff . She was a hoarder. I was dreading this day for years. Stuff EVERYWHERE. The only good thing is its a small one bedroom apartment but she packed it in!

So me and the good SIL are cleaning, throwing out, sorting. The bad SIL drops in once in a while to find out if we found any more life insurance policies. My MIL knew how she is so everything comes to my husband to be distributed fairly. Its hard enough doing all this but then you have the greedy grasping family member, and it just makes it worse.

I'm not getting my regular exercise at all. I'm pretty much eating one big meal a day, lots of water & coffee. We've been eating out the whole time, lots of Greek food so its good food, except for the cheese cake & Baklava, and OMG Baklava cheese cake! But I'm not eating regular meals, not sleeping great. Totally exhausted.

So its crazy right now but we are working on it.

Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. You are a great person to help out with everything and having to drive 90 miles back and forth. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. emoticon
