I love this site but...

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I am so lost when I try to use it. I joined quite some time ago looking for a "free version" of weight watchers, which used to be my weight loss outlet. Unfortunately it costs too much money. So I found this site by reading about it in an extremely outdated magazine at work. Naturally, I suspected it may be as outdated as the magazine.

To my delight this suspicion did not hold true. I immediately joined and started reading through all of the different portions of this site. My two favorite: Recipes (I absolutely love cooking and am always looking for new ideas) and the tracker (the app was quickly added to my smartphone). Everything was all great until I tried to get my some of my weight loss interested family members involved in this site.

My sister signed up and, while I was able to send her a request, I do not think she was ever able to figure out how to accept me. If I try to click on her page it shows me nothing except for the fact that her page exists. I can't comment, I can't message... nothing. She got bored and then never used it... My only friend on the site gone.

I quickly learned that I do not know how to become part of this community. I joined some of the groups, but I am really not even sure how to participate in those particular communities. Simply put- I do not know how to make friends on this site. While being provided useful tools through this great site, I am alone while doing it. I would like more.

I have always been very into nutrition... I know what to do- It is just a matter of executing the advice I have for myself. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it sounds. I think the support this site has to offer (but that I do not know how to reach) would be extremely helpful.

Thanks everyone! I have to be honest that I can't believe the number of responses I got in one day (Guess finding the right settings did help a bit!) I do agree, it is all about quality rather than quantity so I am very happy to see a few people from this site that are eager to support! I really want to go through with my complete weight loss journey this time around, so any support and connections will help. I did manage to respond to one of my sparkteams forums today. I am also here if anyone else needs encouragement :-) Maybe if I can figure out the ins and outs of this site, I can walk my sisters and maybe even my mom (shes not too computer savvy) through it too. Thanks for all your help and a good boost for my second day back. I needed it! emoticon
I'm getting excited!

Hey girl--ask and you shall receive! I often feel like I haven't connected with any one person...but my sparkteams keep me motivated. I always check in on those message boards and then check out the blogs. I usually find someone that is in the same boat as I am. That's a great way to connect. My sister joined and then stopped too...wish she was here--but it's not stopping me--I love this place!

    Re: Friending
If someone makes you a friend, and you don't friend them back, you don't have any more access to them than anyone else on the site...based on their privacy settings. So, if your sister's page was set to private, she would have to add you as a friend by going to your page and clicking on "Add as SparkFriend" before you could see her info. If you did the same, and added her, you would be able to see each other's activity in your friend feed.

I know some people set things up so that they get an email whenever someone adds them as a friend. For some reason, I could never get emails from Spark, so I usually just tell people when I friend them, and hope they do the same for me. Most people on this site will gladly add anyone who requests it, though some people prefer more privacy.

Hey-Your mom always said it was quality not quantity..it applies to friends, you've been added to my rather small circle, I have a tough time following too many folks and I'd like to actually respond to my friends here in Spark land...when needed. The friend feed is a great tool as well, it lets you know who is doing what! So welcome! Sydney emoticon

I had the same problem the first time I joined SP (Well, the first two times...)
Now I'm back for good because I've found people to encourage me along the way.
Joining teams and posting on the message boards are good ways to meet people!

I support you! emoticon emoticon

I suffer a bit from the same problem. There are so many people you hardly see the same person twice. Anyway, you just made one friend because I added you. Keep an eye open for me in the friends feed because I am on here a lot. Too much in fact. Before I go to work and when I get home.
