I Am Not Much of a Blogger, But......

Dear Spark Buddies:

You know how you can read something over and over and it may not register, until one day you see it, really see it? It's kind of like reading the Bible. there are passages I know I have read lots of times, but they just didn't register with me and then one day, there they are like I had never seen it before.

Well, today I got the usual spark email, which I always read. I know I have probably seen this a hundred times in my time here, but I don't know that it ever registered before. I believe this is called an epiphany (yep there is a ten dollar word for you!!)!!

This particular spark email was the "Best of Spark People Daily" and was entitled "3 Reasons Why You're Not Losing Weight."

This is the part that just jumped off the page at me, which I am sure isn't such a big deal to anyone else, but just in case, I wanted to share:

"Weight loss seems so simple on the surface: Eat less than you burn and your body will drop pounds. But for many people, there's more to the equation than counting calories in and calories out. We are all an experiment of one; you cannot compare your results to someone else's, just as you can't expect to have the same results as another person, no matter how similar you may seem to be."

Because all I hear from people when I discuss this with them is calories in calories out calories in calories out, this was a realization that this is what is going on with me. I'm doing everything I know that I have learned here, but it's not working as well for me as it does for others who are doing the same thing. Well it appears that it's more than just calories in and calories out! (light bulb moment)!!!!

It also depends on what meds you take, like antidepressants (which I take) tend to make it harder for you to lose (I didn't know that!!!), meds for diabetes and diabetes can also make it harder to lose weight (Yep me me me! That's me too).

Well now, this just really made my day to know that I'm not just cheating, (As my ex husband suggested and those in the church I used to go to suggested) because I knew I wasn't. I knew I was exercising and adding to my exercise and changing it up as I've been taught her to do. Nope, it's other things in the equation that make me a unique and different person and my body is not going to respond as other people's bodies do!!!

Yeah, that just really gave me ore motivation and made me feel just a little less discouraged! Thanks Sparkpeople! And also thanks to those that love me here and encourage always. The people here at spark people are AWESOME!!!!

Happy Mary emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

. Mary,
You a very special & unique woman just as you are. We all need to see our inner " beautiful woman" also before we can loose weight. But I agree, all the things about you make you who you are, and not every one's the same. emoticon

So true, Mary. Keep working on it and doing the right things and it'll come off, even slowly.

Complex deal... I love the concept that we are each an experiment of ONE... what works for you might not work for me, or vice versa. And just as we get differing talents in life, our bodies have different tendencies. I might have to work harder to keep weight off than some of my sisters / brothers, they might have to work harder at something else.

So, here's to you... doing everything you can, and accepting that it will take whatever it takes FOR YOU... no guilt!

You look marvelous and you are so right and that makes sense to me,still it can be difficult when we try so hard and the weight is reluctant to evacuate. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Diana

You are so right on ... You look fabulous! I've learned not to let other people's judgment or expectations of me color the great things that have happened during my Spark journey. It gets very discouraging as I've watched others zoom right past me to their goal weight ... and beyond ... but I'm not them and they aren't walking my path. The best thing about Spark People is the encouragement that continues to pour in even when it seems like the journey is all uphill! Congrats on seeing the part of that article that resonated with you! I needed that too! emoticon

What a wonderful pic! Happy and beautiful Mary!

It took me 2 years of hard work before I started to lose weight. However, my body composition got better as I was exercising and trying my hardest to do what I needed to do.

We are not all the same. Some people take longer to lose weight than others, and that is okay! You just do your best, and enjoy every single day, which it appears you are doing!

Yay for Mary!
