A really bad morning!

Monday, July 23, 2012

The weekend caregiving was a bit difficult. DH had severe diarrhea.

Mon. morning:

I went to water aerobics. trying to start again after low thyroid an dother health problems.
NO POOL!!!! Because of lightening. Wahhh!!! emoticon

Went to the store to get meds for DH and me.

No health aide came to get DH out of bed!!!! I called and got the run around. But they said they would send someone.

DH mad (yelling) at me . I said you have a Life Alert button to get help. Phone numbers I have big signs on the wall for him.

Health aide did not call her boss. Said she had a family emergency. Boss said she told another aide to come here. He, I guess, called here. But I was not home--that's why I pay for an aide!

So, all in all the morning was quite stressful.

I really want the aide to get DH out of bed. I did the task Sat. night, Sun. morning., and Sun. night. I am afraid I will hurt myself transferring him. Plus he is really grumpy now!

I just called and emailed the agency again!

Arrrhhhrrr!!!!! Chris

    Hay Chris....it's Starr again. emoticon

Just wanted to say hi. I very much understand you not being able to count on your DH's aides. So many times, we have the very same problem here. One time we even had an aide say "he forgot that he had to work". Can you believe that. And another time we got this aide who would just come in the front door and sit down in the recliner in the livingroom. She would sit there and "chat" with me & DH for about 20 minutes, then she would take a deep breath and say "well, I suppose that I need to get to work, don't I." The same aide called her boss when I told her that the dishes in the sink needed to be washed and the clothes in the dryer need to be folded and put away in DH's room. She was complaining to the agency that she was not suppose to have to do house hold chores. I could hear her boss talking loudly thru the phone, saying that anything that is related to the client needs to be done....within reason of course. The boss asked the aide, does he eat food, drink, wear clothes? The aide said yes to all. Then the boss said...then it is your job...do it. When it came right down to it...she wanted to get paid....but did not want to work for it. And she was not a young person either.

Just a couple of my long list of tales for you.

Starr. emoticon emoticon

Awww your week is just starting off looking down, I sure hope it picks up. You need a break. DH can be cranky, let it go in one ear and out the other. Of course he will yell, what else can he do. The agency needs to stay on top of things that's what they get paid for. You need to chill out and take a calgon moment.

I would be really furious with the aide agency. They were really negligent. Good luck to you and I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

I went through the same thing last year when DH had his strokes and infected foot. I had to be very careful with transferring, or we'd have had 2 patients instead of 1. Please be careful!

I hope it makes you feel better knowing so many Sparker friends are here for you. It is extremely stressful to be a caregiver for a loved one. Make sure you get some "me" time in for you!

I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR SITUATION AND AM VERY SORRY FOR THAT. WHAT IS WRONG WITH DH? IT SOUNDS LIKE MY HUSBAND WHEN HE WAS GOING THROUGH HIS CANCER TREATMENT. I THINK IT IS AS HARD ON THE CARE GIVER AS ON THE PATIENT - IF NOT WORSE AT TIMES. I WILL PRAY FOR YOU BOTH AND HOPE YOU GET A LITTLE BREAK.

You have to look at it as this day can only get better so far nothing has gone right so now things will go as planned. It is hard to think these thoughts when everything is going wrong. Sit down and relax and think good things your DH is only yelling and miserable out of frustration and don't take it personally. If you have to go out of the room and let him stew he will get over it soon enough. Take care and it is a very hard job taking care of him. You are right though to try and get the help when you can so you don't hurt yourself and then it would be a very bad outcome. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
