Myself and DGDaughter love my NEW/OLD yogurt.

Saturday, July 21, 2012

It is not really my yogurt it is Dannon Naturals and we both love it. We do not eat it the way it is. I have been straining it and it gets the consistancy of Greek yogurt.
I found a coffee filter with a handle on it that fits inside an empty large yogurt container. I washed the original conatiner and put in the coffee filter then I dumped 1 cup of the vanilla yogurt into it. I left it in the refrigerator over night and a spoon stood in it easily, it was almost like spreadable cottage cheese.
GD loved it with berries for breakfast I measured her 1/3 cup and she actually licked the bowl. I turned a blind eye.
I looked in the bottom of the container and saw the whey so when I made my usual oatmeal instead of my cottage cheese and banana, I added the whey and it was delicious indeed. I tracked whey and added it twice since I know that yogurt used sugar. I do this with the large container of Plain and it is great to spread on bread or toast to add a layer of mashed berries, oh that tastes good.
I checked it out and I am certain I have a lower calorie and fat content I will keep on tracking and experimenting with this.
I baked 2 of the 5 minute microwave chocolate cakesfrom the single cup recipe and the grands had them with the vanilla yogurt and loved it.
it took just a few minutes to fix and 5 minutes with it divided in to 2 regular coffee mugs. I love this because it called for cocoa powder, very high antioxidants and I subbed 1/2 applesauce for oil. Added half a banana and 1 level tablespoon of brown sugar. They each ate half of it. I also added Ghiradelli chocolate chips I tablespoon of minis.Tonight they helped me make microwave apple crisp they love that too. No sugar added to the gala apples no flour to thicken apples and just 1 tablespoon in the topping and I used canola oils.
We had a great cooking class on a very warm day but they loved those coffee mug chocolate cakes. Check it out on the internet and change things for yourself HUGS Pat in Maine.

I read somewhere that if you strain the yogurt and leave it on the counter it will make cheese. I don't remember for how long but I am going to try straining my yogurt in the fridge and try it.

Thanks

When you strain the yogurt in the coffee filter? Does it actually seep through it overnight? Never heard tell of this and I do like a thicker yogurt!
I often have yogurt and berries of some kind with some toast in the morning but have never tried just spreading the yogurt on the toast then adding the berries...that sounds even more yummmy~~

Will skip by the chocolate mug cake though...have made them before...DH devours them! And even though they are less calories then a regular chocolate cake....they are still way too high for the way DH eats them.

Good Blog... emoticon for nthe ideas

I am not abig fan of Greek, more of a fan of John Stamos in the ads!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT'S Greek!!!!!

Greek yogurt tastes identical to sour cream to me, so I prefer Kroger carb-wise yogurt,, When our blackberries and raspberries ripen here in a week or so, I will make homemade parfaits with it and plain oatmeal,,

those mug cakes are good.. I make them with my pound cake recipe and add apples or any fruit to bake..

Now that's a good Grandma...(looking away when she licked the bowl). I always lick mine when nobody's looking, tee hee!

The chocolate cakes sound delish and so do the apple crisp. No wonder they like coming to Grandma's house! :)
