Visit with Dad

Thursday, July 19, 2012

So going into this day I knew it was going to be a challenge.

My father always has had a high sugar fat diet, and I was taking him out for the day so his caretaker could have a day off, so we were bound to end up going to places with not the more healthy food.

Also I'm still limping along with a cane and he Should be walking with a walker, but won't so we probably looked like the 'sad day' couple out and about.

I got there bright and early at 8:30 and made sure his blood pressure and meds were taken and we were going to go out for breakfast, but unfortunately he bee lined for bed. He is known for laying around all day. So I let him take a nap and then tried to getting him rolling. It was a slow process. By this time I was starved, so I made myself and egg and had a small pancake that was left over. We finally got on the road to visit the small family Dutch bakery. When we got there he didn't want to get out of the car. He did ask for 6 maple bars (that will take care of his daily sugar for the week) and the plan was that I would get something and we could go to a park and enjoy.

So for myself I got a small non fat mocha (I needed the lift me up at that point) and I got some amazing whole wheat bread (a loaf for each of us) and my bad a cream danish which I planned to only eat half and bring the rest back for my husband.

We then had a very pleasant time driving around the neighborhood and I showed him the artesian well that I'd discovered and filled up my water bottle there. I even got him to drink a full glass. By that time he was warming up, and wanted to get more things for breakfast at home, so we stopped by a place that home smokes meats and got a pound of thick sliced bacon that was going home with him (it was worth it for the smell, amazing). After smelling that we went to Ivar's (local Seattle seafood), he got chowder and clams and I got a single piece of grilled salmon.

We went to the park and feed birds his leftover fries and then I took him back. I was really proud of him getting out. It was a much longer day than normally he would have been up to. At the end I was laughing, because he was planning out tomorrow of how we could do it again. Which means the day was a success with him. However, he has nursing care tomorrow so he can't go out.

So to that point the day was good. However, on the ride home, hunger hit me big time, because normally I would have had more for lunch....and there was that darn danish. Honest, I meant to only eat half, but I breathed in and it was gone. I was stuck in traffic - what can I say. Looking back I should have opened the loaf of bread and had a slice of than instead...or maybe I would have inhaled that as well! No matter I'm still at an OK calorie range for the day. My foot is really swollen from being up on it too long. Got it up - earned the right.

I'm having a plate of streamed veggies with a protein powder shake - so I get protein and nutrition almost packed in for the day....end total around 1,300kcal. So not bad, but not as clean as the last week...however, another pound off...I'm off the plateau, yipeeeeee!
