Progress not perfection, right? :)

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Today was an interesting day. Chris invited a few friends over, and we had a little afternoon cookout, since quite a few people had to work later in the day. It was fun! The food was great, I didn't track every bite but I think I didn't go too far overboard.

We played bocce, and it turned into an extreme sport after one of the balls rolled down the steep embankment in our backyard. We went down the hill to look for it, since it's kind of an expensive set. I didn't think we would find it, but we had to try! We've lost numerous horse shoes over the years, and none have ever been seen again. It was muddy, the ground was much softer than I thought it would be, and it was very difficult to keep my footing. I climbed through the bamboo (I think it was), and finally came across the ball! It was about the size of a softball, but made of much denser material. I put the thing in my pocket, and proceeded to climb up the hill to return to the party. Wowee, what a workout that was, it was so steep! But, I was the hero of the afternoon for saving the game set, so that was awfully fun. I got all muddy and scratched up a little.

After everybody went their separate ways, it was almost late afternoon. I hadn't gotten in a workout yet today. Chris and Vanessa fell asleep on the couch, so I decided to go put in a workout video I'd only tried once before. The first time I attempted the workout, I was not in a good frame of mind I guess, because I got aggravated and turned it off about 8 minutes in, and didn't touch it again for months. So, that changed today. I actually enjoyed the moves, and got used to the banter on the video after a while so that wasn't bothering me so much. Before I knew it, I was drenched in sweat, and an hour had gone by. Holy crap! I felt much better afterwards too, it really perked me up out of my afternoon slump.

I downloaded a couch to 5k app onto my iPod tonight! I'm excited and just a tad nervous. I told Chris about it, and he said, "so you want to start running?" Not sure what the tone in his voice was. Mostly factual, but maybe just a touch of "is she nuts?" Yeah, I'm going to try it. I remember loving to run so much when I was in 1st grade, I thought I was so fast! I've sprinted a couple times over the past few months, but nothing consistent. I'm really looking forward to trying this out. I think this would be great to do out on the trail, since the ground is softer than asphalt, plus it's flat and straight for the most part.

So, I've found my something else to train with besides the Harper vid. It's even still circuit training! I'm going to try the c25k next time I go out to walk, probably Saturday or Sunday if I don't take a rest day.

Best of luck to you with couch to 5K I think it's a great program, and having it on your ipod really helps so you don't have to look at the clock all the time. Congrats also on eating well with the cook out, it's always a plus to have fun with friends and then feel good on top of that about the fact that you've done well for the day. Keep up the good luck!! emoticon
