I'm joining a friend who has decided to eliminate all refined sugar from her diet. Actually I'm MOSTLY joining her as I have decided I am going to give up MOST sugar.
I REFUSE TO GIVE UP MY 90% DARK CHOCOLATE!!!!!! LOL!
I've tried going cold turkey on all sugar before and know I can't do it for more than a day or two. I do need to go cold turkey with the regular kind of chocolate and ice cream at our cafe.
I am going to allow myself, if I want it, my 1/4-1/2 oz of 90% dark chocolate (it only has 3 g of sugar per oz), one or two pieces of gum, and a little honey in my oatmeal or plain Greek yogurt. I may have one serving of frozen yogurt a week but I think I can do ok without this as long as I make my clean "ice cream" (frozen banana, some other frozen fruit, and either cottage cheese or Greek yogurt mixed in food processor until creamy). If I need something sweet I have fruit or can use stevia.
I may give in a little to a bite or two of something on vacation in Mexico next week if it is something I would only be able to have there because who knows when I will go again. Most sweet things have wheat in them so I can only have 1 or 2 bites anyway. Don't like the pain the wheat gives me.
The only thing I am worried about doing "all or nothing" kind of thing like this is when I do slip, I'm worried I will feel so terrible about it that I will give up and go back to eating sugar. I'm thinking that maybe after a couple of weeks on the strict regime of very little sugar, I may start allowing myself, if I want them, 1 or 2 small treats a week. That way, if I do eat something, I can count it as one of my treats and still be on track.
I have noticed that over-indulging in sugar gives me joint pain, just like wheat does, so I do have that as an incentive to stay off most sugar.
I also know that I'm more likely to eat sugar when I am stressed, so that is when I have to be extra watchful of how much I eat.
