Mountain Vacation (Part 1)

Thursday, July 19, 2012

emoticon Guys,
I have had a great month so far. My goal for June and July was to have at least 10 more pounds lost. I have done this as of today! emoticon I am feeling much better, more energetic, and I feel I have learned a lot about what I can put in my mouth and what I can't. I have lost 20 pounds total and I can not wait to go back to the doctor's in August. That is when I take my A1C. I am hoping it will be lots better. I would love to loose more weight by then also. I am going to try and set another goal of 10 more pounds by September.

Did I eat right while on vacation? Well, you know how vacations are. I will admit to emoticon two emoticon. I did get some exercise though to help combat it. The motel had an inside swimming pool. I did use this one night, but did not get in any more. It was a heated pool, but for me not heated enough. The next morning I woke up with my arthritis knees, legs, and feet killing me. The only thing I could think of was the water was way too cool for me. Icy Hot was taken out of the suitcase and applied several times and so was my regular medications for this problem. I still walked around like I was crippled for most of the first day there. We stayed in beautiful Hendersonville, NC. The town has such a great atmosphere. It is a small town atmosphere.

The first stop on our agenda was Carl Sandburg's home. He is a famous writer. It was located in the next town over called Flat Rock, N.C. I do have a few pictures:

These are scenes of the house and the pond before you get to his house.

This is scenes of the bridge you cross to get over to the house.
The last two pictures are of mom and I.

Here is the sign explaining that the house is 110 feet up a hill and we
tried our best mom and I, but the little engine that could just did not get
up the hill. Her heart and my legs would not give. So this let's me know
that even though I have come a long way there is still an even longer
journey ahead of me. I want to climb that hill one day and get pictures
for my mom of the inside of the house. Just another goal I guess. Who
knows maybe I will be able to do this next year. All I can do is
emoticon!

This is the beautiful sign in front of the nice bathrooms located at the end
of the hill . What a great picture of Carl Sandburg. This is where mom really
got crazy ! I think she did not get enough air circulating to her brain here!
As you have noticed we have been in a wooded area here around a pond. I have
a terrible fear of snakes. She knows this of course. What does she do?
Well we went inside the bathrooms which were located outside with
doors on them. Do I trust the doors to not let a snake in? No, not really.
I sat down in the stall beside mom and she politely took her hand and put
it under the door and grabbed my leg. I am so glad that I was sitting where
I was! I s-c-r-e-a-m-e-d so loud! Everyone thought something had gotten
me (there was something got me)! . emoticon

When I calmed down, I politely told my mom that "Pay back could be
something not real nice!" I heard every woman in the bathroom laugh
and sigh a sound of relief! My sister was standing outside my door
bent double emoticon. Needless to say she had to get in my stall as
fast as possible! Mom could not stop emoticon and you would have
thought her silly little prank would have made her day ( it did!).
It was time to leave! Thank God! Mom and my sister emoticonall the way
up the hill to the emoticon! All I could say was Ha! Ha! emoticon

Next, we went uptown Hendersonville to get a bite to emoticon. We finally found
a place to park and got out and smelled something cooking around the corner.
The aroma was simply put "To die for!" emoticon There was a local man
coming out the door and I looked at my sister Ramona, and mom, and said "Should I?"
They said "Why sure!" I asked him how the food was and he replied "That he
was not telling a story that it was emoticon!" So with that type of
endorsement we went in! The name of the restauraunt was
Three Chopt Sandwich Shoppe. The name comes from and early American trail.
Trees on the trail were blazed by axes with three chops, showing the way to go.
The trail eventually became a major road in Richmond Virginia. There was
a deal where you got a half sandwich, cup of soup, bag of Sun Chips, pickle, and
a drink for about $8.00 and some change! Just our kind of deal! My choice was
chicken salad on pumpernickel and cream of broccoli soup! It was out of this emoticon! The bread was not on my diet, but it must not have been that
bad for me. Maybe I just burned it off walkingthe city streets the rest of the day.
As mom shopped till I dropped! emoticon

These are pictures of the town streets with all the flowers and beautiful
hanging baskets. As you can see, a lot of the restaurants have places on
the sidewalk to eat also. I enjoyed the different shops and my stroll down the
streets.

Let me introduce you to my new friend. On just about every street corner
in town there is a bear statue. Don't ask me why? All I know is there are a lot
of black bears in this area. They really are too friendly sometimes and not
real fun to come up on in the woods! emoticon even though they look
so cute.

Well I think I will stop here for tonight! Did I eat right and get the exercise
needed? I'll let you be the judge. I weighed in Tuesday when I went back to
work. I had lost 2 pounds. Sometimes I feel that you can indulge some, but
you better be doing something to combat that indulgence. Stay tuned to part two!
