Ear Infection - but still exercised!

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Day 8 of consecutive exercise. Today was hard. I have an ear infection...waiting for my insurance to approve the medication for it (really?!?) Might be 48 hours before I get some. I actually sat in the parking lot for about 15 mins and then in the lobby for another 15 before I started my workout. BUT - I ended up doing 3 circuits at Curves instead of my usual 2 circuits today......whoo hoo! emoticon

Here are some tips for dealing with ear infections without meds: get some rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. Tilt your head to the side, drop some into your ear, let it sit until it feels warm, then turn your head over and dump it out. Either one will help dry our your ear which should help ease the infection. You can also massage down from just behind your ear to your throat to help drain your eustachian tube and clear the infection. If it's more on the inside of the ear drum than the outside, you can also use mouthwash. Let it sit in your mouth but tilt your head back and to the side so it gets a little ways up the eustachian tube (it empties into the back of your throat). Just be sure not to swallow it! I have problems with my ears so I'm always battling ear infections. 1 drop of water in my ear and within 24 hours I'll have a raging infection. These tips are how I battle them long before I could get into a doctor for antibiotics.

In the meantime, good job keeping up with the exercise!

Pro-star!! Great job today! I think there is nothing quite like the victory of not letting your head convince you to quit. You had all the reasons to not workout today but you accomplished more than usual - be really proud of yourself for that.

(And I hope your ear is better soon)
