Summer Goals

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

So far, I'm really happy about sticking to my commitment for exercise this summer

emoticon My plan: 10 minutes of exercise a day. Monday, Wednesday, Friday: circuit training. Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday: Run. Saturday is a rest day but I usually stretch/do yoga or pilates/take a walk. It's an active rest day.

I felt like I needed to ensure success by planning ahead (making sure I had everything I needed--time, equipment), staying consistent (working out every day for at least 10 minutes), and sticking to goals (my workout schedule).

emoticonPlanning ahead: I have been ensuring that I have everything I need ready. I make sure I have workout clothes/sport bra/arm band for phone to track workout/socks/shoes ready. If I know that I want to run and my friend is also going to be running, I have been making a plan beforehand so that I have remained consistent and stuck to my exercise streak since April 21 but I only started tracking my streak on SP in May.

emoticonConsistency: every day I do something active. Even if it's just ten minutes. Most days it's more but the ten minute rule is helping me stay consistent

emoticonSticking to goals: If I say that Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday are run days I run on those days. emoticon

If I say that Monday, Wednesday and Friday are circuit training/ST days I stick to those days. This week I committed to doing 3 days of circuit/ST. The past few weeks I've been doing 2 days of ST. emoticon

I am seeing more muscle tone, definition in my legs (from running, lunges, squats) and arms from ST. My middle is where I'd like to see more definition...

Some future goals are races I have coming up.

To keep my running fresh, fun, exciting and something to continue to keep me motivated,
emoticonI am doing several 5ks,

emoticonThe SP virtual 10k (week of July 29)

emoticonA 15k (didn't know that existed!) in November,

emoticon Two half marathons in December and January

emoticonAnd a full marathon (though I have not fully committed to that...yet!)

I am 5 lb above my goal weight I reached last summer. I am happy with my weight and fitness level. I would like to continue with my plan, running, ST, dancing, pilates, yoga, and see if I remain consistent that it will give me results...toning (maybe losing these 5 lbs that have crept up on me...no, actually they didn't creep up...I invited them by slacking off on exercising (like, totally slacking off, for days, sometimes weeks at a time) and eating too much (consistently well above my range for a long period).

I've found something that really works. 10 minutes a day. I don't want to break that streak. I joined the 10 minute a day Spark Team and I track my minutes on my goals page. That has REALLY kept me motivated. Every day I track 10 minutes and then start my workout. I almost always exceed it. But that is enough to get me started. And I always feel great after. NEVER regret a workout.

What goals do you have for today? This week? This month? This summer? What are you doing to ensure that you meet them?

Great job! I lay out all of my workout clothes the night before, too! It helps me stay accountable because I just grab them and put them on right away and head to the basement. I even fill up my water bottle the night before and stick it in the fridge. The less I have to do or think about in the morning, the easier it is to get my workout in!!

Congratulations for staying consistently active and doing so well with achieving fitness and reaching your goals! You are such an encouragement! I really like that you have the attitude to do what you say you're going to do. I'm trying hard to incorporate that mindset into my life also.
Great job!!!

Rachel: Love this motivating blog! Ihave let 15 pounds creep back on these sat two years. I have got to get them off! I know I'd feel better too. The idea day of sticking to 10 min. a day is something that can work for me too. After I go back to Gemany I can do your routine too.
Love you girl and your focus!

It's really great to have a system! You are a shining role model. emoticon

My system of tying travel savings to adherence to my fitness/nutrition goals is working really well for me too! I love seeing those fitness minutes mount & knowing that come Saturday I'll be able to transfer another $25.
