Well, first of all, I did happen to make all the challenges this week of the Lime team. It just happened that all of the challenges were an automatic for me. I definitely got 6 plus hours of sleep every day even when camping. I managed to get a nap one of the days...Tuesday....
I have really struggled with everything this summer challenge. I have been so concentrated on selling, packing, getting ready for our new adventure. We won't be leaving until August so this has given me a little time.
My family trip that my mom put together for camping went well except for the food for me...it was all good, but all food I should not eat. I ate hot dogs, had a couple of beers, no more than one in a day.... a couple throughout the entire trip. I ate hamburgers, potato salad (healthy because I made and brought), sweet & sour beans (beans healthy but too much sodium and sugar)...too much bread with buns on hot dogs / hamburgers...pancakes every morning for breakfast...then she had lemon bars, cookies for snacks, brother bought strawberry fritters for one morning for breakfast. I did bring salad / cucumber and dressing so did eat some of that. Can't forget the marshmellow and hershey bars for smores. I ate one graham cracker, w/half hershey bar and one marshmellow smore one day, and another one on another day. I ate like two marshmellows on another day...so I didn't over enduldge on any one thing...but the combination of all the days, chips too, it was overall too much. If it had been just one or two things entire trip and all healthy, I would not have had the swelling issue. I did take lasix most of the days at least once...but didn't the last two days, and well, I swelled more than I have since heart surgery.
I am nearly back down with the swelling. I am eating healthier too being home. I've struggled eating healthy at home too...prior to trip...Been so so busy that by time it is to eat, I am too tired and don't want to cook and dh is tired so we go out to eat cheap and eating out cheap means garbage food....yeah...like hamburger/fry, or something along that line...even applebees salad...too high in sodium. Nearly anywhere is too high on sodium so it makes it a real struggle for me.
My cardiologist / heart failure clinic would not be happy that I have had sodium...but I can tell you, it is down right HARD to be completely disciplined to NOT EVER go over on sodium when EVERYTHING has sodium. I tell ya, sugar is easier to cut out then sodium in some ways.
One thing I did do is a LOT of WALKING/HIKING in the state park. Every single time we took dogs for walk, we went down to beach or boat launch, explored on the trails...everything is down hill...but the walk back was UP HILL! For me, hills are really hard. I do ok with flat or really small hills. I do great going down, but up hill, I did many many times and may have been super slow, but I made my legs sore, my calves sore, but I did good and I made sure to not get myself out of breath. I stopped if I had too to take a deep breath. All of this should have been good for my heart.
I did story time with all of the kids.... what we did is huddle around the fire and I would make up a story (scary story) and tell it around the fire. We got 1/2 way through. I told them I would finish it and email it to them. We walked to the boat launch at midnight one night to see if we could watch or see the Northern lights but it was too fogged in to see. We still had fun. After walking back, I tucked all of the kids into their tents. My husband and I spent a lot of time with all of the kids. I am sure the kids will remember the fun we had on this trip. Brian sent me text back that the best part of trip was the stories and walk at midnight...giggle giggle.
It really was a fun trip and would have been perfect if my daughters and their families could have been there.
I want to apologize to all of my LIME TEAM friends and new members for my lack of support or being online. This summer challenge has been the most difficult for me. One wonderful thing is, it makes me at least check in.
