Organizing & Slightly Scary Medical News for My Dad/Husband

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Yesterday was a day of organizing the van, car, and my house. I'm very pleased with what I got accomplished and even organized and cleaned out my purse. I'm so happy when my spaces are organized and to celebrate I plan to take a trip to Wal-Mart today and see if I can find some more cheap organizing "stuff".

I called my dad and found out that he was once again in the hospital (since Saturday). I didn't fuss at him as I realize he is sick and couldn't call, but fussed that no one told me. Seriously, my family makes me so angry at times at how cold and unfeeling they are towards me.

He was in a lot of pain Saturday and couldn't take it any longer and so said he had no choice but to go to the hospital for help. If you haven't read my blogs you aren't aware that he was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer this year and is taking chemo, etc.

My husband also went to the doctor this morning and got some scary news, so we're waiting on test results to see if it's something to worry about or not. emoticon emoticon

Tomorrow I'm going to take the kids to a teen event a local library and hopefully continue my organizing. I was reading the news online that due to the drought the mid-west was not producing the corn that we normally do and therefore we may see big drops in prices on beef and pork (since the farmers can't afford the high prices for feed) in the near future.

I am trying to eat out of my freezer and get some extra room just in case as I only have a small side-by-side freezer on my fridge. As you know, meat is one of the biggest expenses when you go grocery shopping so I'm always on the lookout for marked down or sale-priced meat for my family.

Susan - Thankfully my dad was released from the hospital yesterday. It seems to be a constant thing though (going to the hospital and out again only to repeat the process).

Congrats on your Foodsaver and freezer! I used to have a Foodsaver but sold it due to the fact that I only have a small side by side fridge so the freezer part is super small. We don't have room anywhere for a free-standing freezer except maybe in our shed, but we don't have it hooked up to electricity so I make do with what I have.

You can save so much money by stocking up when you find a great deal. I'm trying hard to use up what we have in the freezer so I can stock up on some good meat deals in the near future.

Sorry to hear that your dad is back in the hospital - praying for him. Also praying for good results from your husband's tests!

We were recently given a small chest freezer and I love it! My husband goes to the grocery store two or three mornings a week to look for meat that's been marked down and we freeze it. Last year we were planning to buy each other a Food Saver for Christmas (they retail for about $150) and we found one at Goodwill for $3.99!!!! The bags are a little pricy but food frozen by the vacuum seal method lasts so much longer than other methods - so it's worth it if it's something we're not going to eat it soon!

We buy meat about twice a month. I try to keep the freezer stocked up. We buy ours on the AF base here in Vegas. They tend to have better meat I think.

Thoughts and prayers for your Dad and Hubby!
