Title is a quote from Paulo Coelho.
My favorite thing to do on weekends lately is experiment in the kitchen. I love to take recipes and modify them to be friendlier to my goals. Even in healthy cookbooks, blogs and pins I often find myself saying “hmmm, I could make this for fewer calories/fat grams/carbs/etc.”
As many of you may know I’m a huge pinterest nerd. I could literally be there for hours, pinning and repining all sorts of things but especially recipes. People are so creative! Like did you know you can make “tater” tots out of zucchini? Or that you can use it as a crust for pizza? Even as I pin, I’m still thinking things like, I would substitute flax meal for bread crumbs, and only use half the cheese, and it would still be fine. Or PB2 would be okay instead of Peanut Butter, or water would be fine instead of milk. Or frozen fruit instead of fresh + ice.
I do weight watchers and each week they have a flyer at our meeting that includes a recipe. I’m always saying, I can make that for less points/calories, etc.
So in the spirit of substitution, what are your favorite substitutes?
