I just received a pair of my favorite brand's dark wash skinny jeans in the mail... in a size 24.
They were supposed to be my "motivation" jeans... you know, the pair that you can't even zip up now, the ones you want to fit into /eventually/... that pair that you hang in the front of your closet for motivation?
Well.... imagine my surprise when I tried them on (just to see how badly they did not fit) and they actually... DID fit. They are a bit snug still, but they zip comfortably, feel good at the waist, and look decent on me. It totally blew my mind!!!
WHY THIS IS AWESOME: I have been between sizes 26-32 for my ENTIRE adult life... I have not actually been a size 24 since Jr. high (grade 7, age 13).
So (being nearly 26 years old now), I can say I fit into this size for the FIRST TIME IN 13 YEARS, for the first time in HALF MY LIFE, for the first time in my ADULT LIFE, and for the first time since joining Sparkpeople for the first time (4 years ago).
In one year (July 2011 - July 2012) I have lost over 50 lb and have gone from a snug 32 to a snug 24. I have made more progress this year than I ever have with any previous attempts to lose weight. Sure, my lowest adult weight is still 14 lb lower than I am now, but my belly is smaller now than it has ever been, and THAT is the benchmark I care about most. I definitely feel like I have made a substantial psychological change this time with my eating and my exercise habits, and I intend to keep it up indefinitely--as a lifestyle change.
I have to give some credit to strength training!
It has really made the difference between my becoming a smaller-version of my big self (like last time I lost weight) and my becoming a slimmer, sexier, new version of me (this time)! It's all virgin territory from here...size 22s, 20s... maybe even size 18s by next July :) That would be so freaking wonderful!
LIFE IS GOOD!!! New Short-Term Goal: to fit more comfortably in these 24s. Then I guess I need to visit a tailor to take in the rest of wardrobe, since this is the ONLY pair of 24s I own :) haha
Oh, and I guess I should buy a size 22 for my new "motivation" jeans. EEEEE! :D
Update: thank you all for your supportive comments! It means a lot to me.
Here is a photo of the jean shorts I wore last July (size 30... I donated the 32s unfortunately, but as you can imagine, they were even bigger!) vs my new size 24 jeans.
