2 years ago, May 2011, i walked (painfully starting with mile 10) the cincinnati ohio flying pig half marathon. i finished, but was not able to walk very well for a few days. it was ALL my fault because i didn't do any preparing for this long of a walk.
so, i decided since i want to walk in the half marathon may 2013, i would do more walks more often (not 13.1 miles at one time). i figured if i could regularly walk 4-5 miles at a time a few times a week, then that would be a great help. so, i joined a walking group on meetup.com. i have done 2 walks with them that are 4-5 miles. the first time, i crapped out at 35 minutes and only made it just over 1 hour of a walk. but i was fine. last night, in 85 degree humid weather here in cincinnnati, i walked the full 90 minutes, but i was lightheaded and felt ready to faint. i know that i am not used to walking so much at one time, but come on............lightheaded? i drank gatorade before i walked and was guzzling water the whole time i was walking. do i need to give up on my goal of the half marathon, or do i just walk MUCH shorter distances until the race? i need suggestions, because i can't be in pain like i was 2 years ago, and i can't be doing 2 mile walks. i need to do 4-5 mile walks as much as possible.
