At a crossroads...

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Weight loss or Healthy lifestyles are one of the hardest challenges I have ever endured in my life. It's been a roller coaster ride full of highs and lows...I know I want to loose weight and I need to loose weight and I know what I have to do, but still I do very well for a little while...then I'm off track and back to my old ways.

I don't know why or even how I keep sabotaging my own success. I have the tools, and knowledge and a ton of recipes, yet nothing seems to click mentally to keep me on track! I get so pumped and in the zone, only to be so down and discouraged a few days or week later. What is it going to take to be able to own up to it and make the change my life so desperately needs!

Check in with yourself and see if you can figure out what causes you to go off track. Is it not seeing progress on the scale like others have mentioned? Is it because your cravings become to strong? Are there situations where you give in to habit (like emotional eating)? Once you figure out what causes the derail you can plan ways to keep on track.

One thing to remember is that your body can't make instantaneous changes in nutrition and exercise. You need to make gradual changes otherwise you'll be fighting both mentally and physically. Instead of trying to do everything you need to do and do it perfectly, focus on small changes and better choices and add them up over time. The progress is more gradual, but the progress will continue instead of stopping cold when you get distracted. Once you get used to a few small changes then you can change other things. Eventually you will get to where you want to be. It will happen.

I realized I was sabotaging myself when I was focusing too much on the scale. If I didn't see the number I wanted I would immediately give in and let my health slide, not caring to continue exercising or eating right. I've just recently learned that the end of the journey isn't what's important, it's the journey itself. As long as you feel yourself getting healthier and want to keep that feeling going, you can overcome most setbacks.

Keep trying and take everything in moderation. Success is measured by you and you alone, and a positive attitude is the most important thing to keep!

It's so easy to sabotage ourselves. I've done it many times!! I think discouragement plays a huge part. You work hard all week, the scale doesn't reflect it and bam! I'm gonna eat that chocolate cake.
