How does Caffeine affect you?

Hey Peeps,

Okay so I started out strong when I started my Primal lifestyle but with the summer and my love for diet soft drinks I have been really bad on my soda intake. I know all the studies on how bad they are for me and I do notice a shift in the way I eat and crave things when I drink them but I am addicted to the taste.

I like to drink water when I am exercising but generally not as a way to just drink for refreshment. I find it tasteless and boring and only drink it as a way to get my water goal done. (and haven't been doing that for months). But today I weighed in at a whopping 191 (PMS) and decided I really need to get back to eating and drinking right.

So here are my new July goals:

I will work on not drinking it at night and go from there. I noticed since I have drinking way more caffeine at night I am having trouble going to sleep and staying asleep. So I wake up multiple times during the night and then can't wake up when the alarm goes off.

Since I want to start work 30-45 minutes earlier than my current schedule I will need to NOT drink caffeinated drinks after 5PM.

Eventually I will kick the habit or at least get to the point where I do not drink it everyday. But diet coke to me is like coffee to the rest of the world. I like it in the morning (as well as a hot tea) and sip it through out my work day. When I am stressed out I grab another one to calm my nerves. I use it for this purpose a lot. It strangely relaxes me. In fact I read once that hyper active kids or kids with ADD actually calm down with caffeine. It is the way their brain's process the stuff. I in no way have ADD or am hyper active but I have been drinking the stuff for 20 years (in large amts.) and I think my adrenal glands just can't process it as efficiently as it should so I don't get hyped up like most people. But my poor sleeping pattern does show I am affected nevertheless.

Wish me luck on reducing my sodas and losing my extra 5 pounds. I really want to see 180 again so I guess I need to lose 10 lbs. total.

    I'm down to a half a can of soda/day. That's pretty good for me. I used to drink at least 5 cans/day. Not sure I'll ever kick this last little bit and honestly, it's so small, I'm ok with it.

    Whoa.... I am nto sure why I am still gaining weight. Just finished my TOM last week and have not lost any of the extra weight. :( But I have not been sleeping well. Last night my cat woke me up at 2:30 AM and then my allegeries kept me up the rest of the night. And I know lack of sleep hinders weight loss.

On a good note I have been weight training (at lunch) and doing a lot of stretching/Pilates/balancing sessions at home and it is paying off.I am definitely stronger and my balance and foot flexibility is getting better.

    Kicking the soda habit was easy but I do need my cup of coffee mid morning!

    I like the goals there to kicking the pop habit. I gave it up earlier in the year for Lent, but started up again. I've been pop-free all Summer. You can do it girl!

    I have 1-2 cups of coffee a day, or sometimes hot tea instead, and that's it. When I have much more than that, I get jittery. I used to drink a lot of caffeine though, and it never bothered me then.

As far as the water goes, have you tried infusing it with other flavors? One of my favorite things to drink in the summer is cucumber lemon water. I cut a whole cucumber up into rounds, as well as a lemon or two, add them to a full pitcher of water, and keep it in the fridge. So good and refreshing, especially on a really hot day! You can use all sorts of things to infuse water...berries, citrus, herbs, there are lots of recipes online.
