Can I Ever Do This?

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Yes, i'm back...and not exactly in the shape i wanted to be in. I have come to realize that i can't do this alone. I need all the help and support i can get.

I've recently signed up for my first 5k ever...and oh boy i hope i can make it. Ha. I've been going to the gym for the past 2 weeks. Thank God for my husband, who is there to motivate me to get my lazy ass up and work out :)

I'm really hoping that this is it for me, that once i've begun the transformation i will be able to keep it up. I seriously am one that cannot stay motivated. Here's to hoping for some CHANGE!

Thank you for the support. My main "WHY" is to be able to keep up with the kids. I'd love to take them out hiking and not have to stop because i can't go on...they deserve an active lifestyle and i'd like to be the one to do this :)

I understand that this is a lifestyle change, slowly but surely i know i'll get there!!

:)

It helps to have a bigger reason, in my opinion. Not just that we're tired of being fat, or want to look good, or be a certain size or weight we once were. I think you need a really BIG "why" to succeed. WHY are you doing this???

Also, you have got to accept that it's a forever deal. You can't just punish and restrict for a certain amount of time, reach your goal, and then go right back. I had a big "A-HA!" moment at the beginning of my journey. I finally figured this out... if it made me fat once, it would make me fat again. I accepted that I had to change my entire lifestyle and it had to be something I could do forever.

Soooo.... I am NOT one of the people you'll read about here who sticks to 1200 calories per day or works out 1-2 hours every single day. Nope. I usually consume anywhere from 1500-2000 calories per day, and I only work out 30-40 minutes at a time, and usually only 3-5 days per week. It took me 25 months to lose 61 pounds. But I'm OK with that. I'd rather lose slowly and happily, than to lose it quick but be miserable the whole time.

I know it's not for everyone, but my biggest tip would be to cut as much animal product out of your diet as you can manage. Animal products are high in calories and fat. Most plants are very low in calories and fat, and high in fiber. You will still be able to eat a LOT of food, but consume fewer calories, actually feel fuller, have a higher metabolism, and be getting tons more nutrients in your diet.

Wishing you all the best... please feel free to send me a SparkMail if you ever have any questions or just need to vent!

Motivation is the hardest part, especially where exercise is concerned. I do find that reading spark content (others blogs, etc.) helps a lot and I get encouragement from others that read my stuff. It is so hard to do alone - it helps to have family support but we all need all the help we can get. Stick with Spark and take it one day at a time and you will do your 5K and more!
