Bummer! You know I'm your roving all time biggest fan in the universe movie reviewer...but you know you're going to get the scoop 'REAL' from me.
The newly released Steven Soderberg movie 'Magic Mike' is a bummer and I feel like a putz for arranging what I thought would be a GREAT night out with all my girlfriends for a movie night of high escapades and FUN! Actually I knew I'd never drag the hubs to this movie..no way NO how...so what's a girl to do?
Well...I guess I should had done some more research beyond just viewing the movie trailer...if I had...I would have saved my night, had my popcorn at home and dodged the disappointed and some downright hostile looks I picked up from the girls after the movie. Those women can be brutal...let me tell you. I heard everything from 'that was disquesting..to how vulgar...to it had NO plot whatsoever...to that should have been a private viewing...and that last one was from a little french lady...probably the most open minded one in the entire group when areas of sexuality are concerned.
Ooops...the REALLY bad part is that I had to agree with them.
I had purchased some horn blowers..some beads..for a mardi gras atmosphere and honestly those simply went to waste. My girlfriend next to me probably made a little racket right at the beginning...but she was in tears..YES tears towards the end of the show.
Now isn't THAT a fun night out when you make your girlfriend cry?!?
She is a sensitive... and I had NO idea that the movie would portray such large portions of drug usage..I guess it's inevitable in the body selling business. Her 28 year old son has put her through the wringer on some of his issues and this part of the movie just was too much for her. Gosh...I felt like 2 cents! I asked her if she wanted to leave and told her I was SO sorry...I really thought this was going to be a fun hearted movie full of hunky guys strutting their stuff kind of like the movie 'Full Monty' which was GREAT fun!
Soooo here's the deal. Unless you have really hard core girlfriends..this probably isn't the typical 'chick flick' so be warned.
Sure there was some great music and some inventive dance themes...and it's a hard choice on which is the better 'eye candy' Channing Tatum or Matthew McConaughey...BUT...the explicit and downright raunchy scenes on stage and at private parties put me in states of mild shock, then to 'what the'...and finally to embarrassing disquest.
If the movie does ANYTHING it once again drives home that drugs will destroy your life...and pretty much the lives of anyone within your radius, so I guess that's a valuable point to be taken. Light hearted entertainment this movie 'Magic Mike' is NOT.
I left the movie feeling the distinct urge to run home to my sweet hubs tell him the revolting plot line and then take a SHOWER!
Spark on my sparkies...I just saved you some cold earned cash...keep it in your pocket!
