Today I had to go in for a check up for one of the meds I am taking. I was recently diagnosed with an adrenal gland issue. Basically my issue is that it causes me to be overweight, have facial hair growth and struggle to loose weight. There were others but these have stood out in my head because they are the three things I have struggled with for years and are annoyed with.
Anywho, first round of treatment was to work on my metabolism. To do this I have been put on Metphormin. We first started me on the lower dose but nothing really happened but help me keep from gaining lots of weight. My dose was then raised and low and behold miracles. I started this new dose at the beginning of May and have lost 15 lbs. Now, it is know by mean my miracle drug for I went on vacation and ate poorly, especially the last half, and gained 5 lbs. As you can see it is not all about the meds.
My doctor noticed a difference in my attitude and I told her that was. Yes, the meds could be helping with my thoughts because I am loosing but I also know I have had a true mindset change. I know this because when I came back from vacation I did not continue to eat bad. Once I was away from the temptations, I fell right back into my healthy eating. Second, I didn't feel guilty about gaining those 5lbs. In the past I would have been devastated and when into a tail spin of eating bad. Trust this could have been so easily done for we went to breakfast at McDonald's and then went grocery shopping the day after we got home. Instead we bought good foods, measured my foods, and logged my foods.
Now for the other news. While on vacation I managed to get in two of my C25K trainings in while we were in Ohio and Chicago. This was awesome for I didn't think I would get in any runs until maybe I got to Southern Missouri. Unfortunately these are the only runs I got in and actually the last run was the last day I did any major walking. I must have done something on that last run for my knee started hurting and going out from under me. At first I wasn't worried about it but then in continued and started to go out more as the day progressed. :( Again though I hoped a good night sleep and a day of rest (we were driving the next two days) would help. Nope! Still pain. I tried a walk when we made it to Cloud 9 (resort for 4wheelers in the Ozarks of Missouri) but I lasted 12 minutes. Well lasted until I was able to circle around back to my camper. I did do water aerobics which was gentle on my knee and went canoeing which only affected me when getting in at out of it so I was able to get exercise. Unfortunately the pain continued. It is weird but it seems that stepping in a whole seem to fix things (did that the last night we were there in the dark). Fix things where I can walk with out limping but can feel that it is still not fully right.
So this leads to the doctor. I told her about what all happened and how it is doing better but still not fully okay. For the rest of this week I can only walk every other day. Next week I can start walking everyday. Only if it is still feeling good do I get to try running again. I am hoping this is not the end of my C25K challenge for I was enjoying it.
In the mean time I have decided that I will do yoga plus the leg lifts my doctor showed me on my off days of walking. Headed back to the doctor in 3 months for another check up. This one will be a fasting blood test to make sure all that is still okay with all these meds I am on. Planning on a good report for it. Concerning the weight. I am not setting any goals. I would like to loose 1 lb a week but honestly I am just happy to be moving into a world of healthy eating and craving the need to get up and move.
