My dog is fat too. LOL

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

So about 2 months ago I started making homemade dog food. and not knowing how much to feed them I just fed them the same amount as I had been dry dog food. Or if they were "hunting" the floor then I'd give them some more later. I feed them twice a day. And give them a carrot and a apple for snack. Both my dogs got fat and I didn't even notice, (one a chihuahua, and a schnauzer) my chihuahua more than the schnauzer (Penny). So I decided to count their calories and weigh them often. Penny is back within a pound, but Bailey who is a bigger than normal chihuahua should be around 10 got up to 18. I know WOW. but she is down in the 14. range. And of course she prefers the apples to the carrots. Penny prefers the carrots to the apple. So I took out their rice and made their food more soupy. And I add lots of water to Bailey's food before giving it to her. And have been walking them.
I can't find a place with definitive info on how much protein, calories, etc they need. Although the calories I am able to figure out by loss or gain.
