Holy sciatica Batman.........

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Just in case I wasn't aware before, now I fully understand the concept of "if it's not one thing, it's ten".

The sunburn is feeling better today, for the most part the blisters have went down or are now peeling. Thank you Irish heritage. :). So I strapped on what is left of my running shoes (**refer to side note below) and decided to hit the pavement this morning to get restarted on my C25K training after my brief hiatus for sunburn healing. I noticed as I started my warm up walk that my sciatica was flaring a bit; however, I assumed the warm up would do just that and by the time the running started it would be ok (this happens from time to time). Wrong! Warm up finished first running interval starts, first stride almost lands me on my badonkadonk from the pain. Hmmm ok....so this morning instead of another day of C25K I had a slow, limping shuffle. Does a 17 min/mile suck? Why yes it does. But was that 3 miles at a snails speed better than planting my tush on the couch? Yes it was.

Food cravings have been atrocious for the last few days, not sure why but I've wanted junk and more junk. Good thing there isn't much of that stuff in the house.

Procrastinating is so bad...one of these days I'll learn...I've been putting off going to the doctor even though I was in my last pair of contacts. Sure enough, they called it quits yesterday and I can't get in to see the dr until Friday so glasses it is for me for a few days, the worst part of that is no sunglasses for running. :(. Oh well, that's what I get for procrastinating.

**side note - this blog was almost titled "but the dog ate my running shoes"

DH brought home ANOTHER dog a few weeks ago. Grrr. She is a black lab that chews on everything, and I mean everything. So far she has chewed every pair of sandals/flip flops I own, 2 coffee tables, 3 side tables, my fire place, the legs of 6 kitchen chairs, the seat and backs of 2 kitchen chairs, 3 blankets, 6 pillows,6 new pair of VS underwear(she only likes the cute ones apparently), my entertainment center, 3 phone chargers, the walls in about a dozen places and most recently my good running shoes (even though they were put up on the closet shelves). She will not chew her chew toys. This is one frustrating puppy. She is so smart (can open all the doors in the house) but refuses to learn the no chewing lesson. Anyone want a 20 week old black lab? Lol

Just wanted to stop in and let everyone know I'm feeling a little better and I got in some movement (albeit slow) despite the sunburn, sciatica, chewed up running chews, insane heat and humidity, no contacts, whining husband and screaming kids. -- and I plan on doing a WATP video in just a bit.

Hope everyone is having a sparky day.

Amanda

When my puppy chewed on everything in sight (10 years ago) I got a soft muzzle and put it on her when I caught her chewing. Only left it on 10 minutes or less at a time. She was very humiliated by it, and broke the habit in less than two weeks.
I love labs! They are forever a puppy.
Sorry about the other problems, but it IS always something, just get used to it.
Congrats with your stick-to-itness.

Bless your heart! You could totally be me, only I don't have the sunburn. I have degenerative disease in my spine and sometimes it flares up when I run too (especially if it's humid or rainy). I usually have to stick to the elliptical on those days.

My husband worked for a vet for a couple of years. In that period of time he brought home 3 cats (brought our total to 6) and 2 dogs (we already had one). One of them was a boxer/lab mix and she ate everything (shoes, siding on the house, carpet, electrical cords, furniture, you get the idea) and dug holes all in the yard. Like, the movie "Holes' kinds of holes. Everywhere. I seriously wanted to get rid of her. But now she's almost 4 and she doesn't chew stuff anymore (still digs holes, though) and she is a great guard dog (not mean, but very vocal). You may have to crate train your lab till she gets out of the chewing phase.

I'm with you on the procrastination thing. I usually mention it daily in my blogs, lol, when I'm not putting off writing them ;)

Way to go on getting in your 5k even with a sore back. I've let my training program fall by the wayside and need to get back to it or I'll be walking the virtual 5k!
