Late night check-ins

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I have been checking in on Sparkies, usually in the middle of the night between 1 and 2am. - when I can't sleep - my mind doesn't seem to want to settle although I feel very drained at the end of each day.

We are still spending anywhere up to six hours each day at the hospital with our darling MIL as she continues to battle on, where we feel that we are on a roller coaster ride of emotions - yesterday she was sitting up and speaking to us a little - today she is quite incoherent and delirious.

We go from feeling that she is improving to feeling that she is sliding away slowly.
We were told today that she may be transferred to the high care facility on Friday, but it will depend on her condition over the next few days.

We have set up a family roster where we take turns to stay with her - although dear SIL has had to return home to her family responsibilities overseas.

Thank you so much for your prayers and comments - they are appreciated.

Have a great week and remember to hold your loved ones close to you!!

I assume that they have ruled out that this is not an adverse effect from medication as her level of coherency seems to come and go. We will continue to remember her and your family in prayer.

    I'm so sorry, Ros...
I'm thinking about you a lot, because our family went through a similar situation with my grandma.
She often had a similar fluctuations of consciousness, and the doctor said it is quite usual when an old person is taken from her usual environment, in addition to decreased blood flow through the brain. He told us not to worry too much about quick changes in her mental state, her general health and prognosis is the same everyday.
When you and your family spend those long hours with her every day, your presence and love helps her to feel better and get better.
